Nope, not down-draft. I got TM33-8012 off a european limited series ´85 GSXR750. Tilted bowls, work great. TM33´s are the ansestors of RS and TMR, at least thats what I´ve undertod.

Tried to search Sudco´s pages but seems they don´t list TMR-series att all. Topham-Mikuni lists TMR32/36-D9 -sets for Z900/Z1000/GPz1100 -models. Slightly tilted bowls is more illusion as all jets and inner parts are vertically set under slide.

This link is in londonese: www.allensperformance.co.uk/products-kits-tmr.html

Got a rack of these:

Beautiful carbs.:cheer: But appear more of a down-draft design, and am dubious as to whether feasible on KZ's where carbs are fitted in level position.

Good Luck! :)

If it's any consolation the RS recently removed from the KZR clacked at idle as well. The one thing these cabs did well was make horse power at middle to top end.

Interesting discussion about the pipe diameters guys.

A slight clack at idle is normal for RS carbs. They shouldn't clack while cruising. If they are clacking it's a sure sign that air and fuel from the cylinder is reentering the intake port - reversion. The engine will be low on power and the carbs will be difficult to tune. Interesting things is that this situation cannot be tuned out through, jetting, ignition timing or changing carbs (changing to a round slide carb will stop the clacking but won't stop the reversion). The following three factors affect reversion:

exhaust header and baffle - competition baffles for the V&H and Kerker pipes usually works best over a broad RPM. One of the most effective ways of getting air through an intake port is by tuning the exhaust.

cam timing/lobe centers - try closing the intake valve a little sooner

Last but not least! - Intake port volume/air velocity. Contrary to some opinions, stock KZ ports are sized VERY well for street use. Smaller ports maintain higher air velocity. This high velocity air reduces or eliminates reversion, increases engine torque/volumetric efficiency and provides better throttle response and fuel mileage from idle to 8000rpm. Smaller ports also make carb tuning SO much easier. In some cases, oversized ports render carb tuning impossible for low end and mid range driveablility.

With a 1015 motor, 10:1 pistons, decent carbs (29s, RS34s or BS34s) 4-1 exhaust w/comp baffle and a mild performance cam (0.365 or 0.385 lift), stock ports are good for 100+RWHP and loads of mid range torque and virtually no compromise in driveability from idle to redline. That's the definition of a good street engine.

I think those are HSR´s not RS that are used on HD´s. Roller-bearings are also in Mikunis TMR -line-up. These are the evolutuion of TM and RS I think.(Sorry about links in German)Maybe you´l find same in on Sudco etc. pages.

Another question about the RS34's - I have nearly 400 miles on mine now and I recently noticed how hard it is to twist the throttle. Have you guys noticed that with the RS34's? I have my stock '78 KZ to compare it to and the difference is HUGE. My forearm and wrist were really hurting after about 100 miles yesterday. I double checked my cable tension, routing, hand grips, throttle sleeve, etc... and everything looks fine. The carbs were brand new when installed. Does that sound normal?

The RS34's have two spring tension positions might want to check and see what position yours is on.

X2

Factory position is the stiffest. I have mine set to the lightest position.

You have to run a push/pull cable assembly!

Wow, that took me all of about 5 minutes to adjust. It's definitely better now but still much stiffer than the stock KZ 26's. I'll try it out on my next ride. Thanks!

That picture came from the PMC Japan web site. If you go to the homepage, there is a slide show that includes a couple of pictures of that bike. I'll post the link below to the english version. I also saw one other small photo of that bike in one of the other sections somewhere. I'll post that below too. There might be more there.

I know it's going to disappoint you guys but I gave up on the RS34's. I have my Mikuni 33 smoothbores back on for now and I enjoy riding it much more. It really runs well and doesn't have that annoying flatslide sound. I plan to install Keihin CR35 specials very soon.

In the mean time, I FINALLY put my Yoshi pipe on my bike. I was surprised how quiet it was with the baffle - too quiet. I removed the baffle and tried it out. Just as you guys predicted, there is a noticeable downgrade in low end performance. Throttle response is not nearly as crisp down low - it almost has a miss. I could probably adjust the carbs to improve it but I'm not sure if I'm staying with the pipe or not. Now the top end on the other hand was amazing! Wow that uncorked Yoshi lets that motor breath and the tire was smoking in a roll on no problem. The sound is really awesome too. Sure sounds different that the standard megaphone type headers.

I plan to try again with the baffle installed and see if that helps the bottom end, but that probably won't be for a few days. I'm hoping the baffle keeps it quiet down low but opens up on the top end. I really don't want to chop up a perfectly good Yoshi baffle but it could use a hole in the front end. I don't think there's a lot of those baffles around, are there? The whole pipe is in excellent shape and fits the MKII really well. I wish it was chrome though.
