Good job, very organized. Looks like the rust got at least the valves. Do you have a valve spring compressor?

likely not, you need a ODHC spring compressor, they can be home made using a big C clamp and socket or piece of abs tubing, I think it is in the tools section. Not expensive to buy though, and you will use it again likely.

Depends on the type he has and if he has a adapter to go into the bucket bore. Ask him what he has first, if he doesn't then it can be taken apart, but probably very hard to reassemble without one.

Joe, here is a link to a thread talking about valve spring compressors. If you're a fabber by trade, then this will be a no-brainer. Buy a cheap C-clamp and mod it ;)

also this may sound dumb, but what side does the rubber end go to, the inside or outside?

when you compress the springs you can take those little half circle keepers out with a magnet or tweezers. All of this is well explained in the manual along with pics.

Just like on your dads BBC engines, there are split keepers that fit into grooves at the top of the valve. Compress the retainer and spring to expose the keepers and pull them out with a little magnet. Then when you uncompress the valve spring you can remove the spring retainer and the spring, and the valve will pop out the bottom ;)
