I can't believe I haven't updated this thread in almost 6 months.
Anyways, I've started making a little progress.
I did a crude mock-up of my chain run and it appeared that the chain will hit the lower portion of my 1"x3" shock mount crossmember before my tire runs out of clearance.
So I ordered 12" of 1"x2"x.120" rectangular tubing last week, received the package Tuesday, and should have a new crossmember and shock mounting tabs done tonight and hopefully some pics up tomorrow.
I also ordered my front end conversion bearings from All Balls Racing and should have those today. I'm also going to stop by a local auto garage and see if they'll press the steering stem back into the lower tree. I initially removed the stem so I could machine it but since All Balls offer conversion bearings now, I won't have to.
Also, a couple weeks ago I got in contact with a member on here and had him make up some bushings to allow the narrower Gsxr arm to fit the slightly wider Kz frame. The only downside is I didn't do all the research needed first and the bushings were way too long. But a hacksaw, bench grinder, and a couple files and they now fit perfectly.
Later, Doug

I tried to do "something" every day on my project. However small it was. Sometimes it was only every week, but that constant contact with the project keeps it front of mind.
I'm glad to see you moving forward here Doug. Keep up the good work.

glad to see that your back at it bud.
i had a similar problem. my chain was hitting the motor mount. the chain bounces up quite a bit during accel/deccel.i installed a roller bearing to keep it happy.

29 Jul 2011 12:21Thanks. :woohoo: I didn't feel like shelling out the $120+ for the Odyssey PC680 battery that will just sit on a shelf and lose charge for a couple years.tachrev wrote: I like your cardboard "battery" simulator.
I was thinking of going with a D&G Chassis upper motor mount. I believe it eliminates the lower bolts of the rear upper motor mount to provide extra clearance.mark1122 wrote: i had a similar problem. my chain was hitting the motor mount.

Here are some pics of the old shock mount crossmember. As you can see I notched it for some chain clearance but thought that it looked a little tacky and un-factory looking...
Here is the new crossmember and new shock mounting tabs. As you can see, I gained a whole bunch of room (1" to be exact) for the chain run....
Template for shock mounting tab made...
Template transferred to 1/4" steel plate...
The tabs cut out and shaped using just a hacksaw, 4" angle grinder, drill press, and bench grinder...
Here are the tabs in mockup. Just need to determine their final position and tack them in...

Cool project & nice work.
Thanks for taking the time to document in detail. It adds work / time to the project, but lets the reader follow along with the fab process.
Keep it up.
