So its the brake rotor hitting the inside of the caliper mounting bracket? Spacers are for sure in the right place? Pretty sure the rotor is flat and not dissed, so I doubt it could be on wrong. You said you had it resurfaced, it would then be thinner, hopefully not below spec. But it shouldn't run into the caliper mount.
Can you take a picture and post it, of the issue and spacing?

I agree.

Comparing this setup to a wheel bearing on a car (as johnny did), is apples to oranges.

Wheel bearings on a car are tapered and must be torqued properly. Just like the steering stem on a bike.

Completely different design.

OK I found out why I was having trouble at Kawasaki.com, the 78 KZ1000 is listed under the 1020cc.
Anyway the diagram, right or wrong, is the same as from the other sites. And while the spacers are all listed as discontinued/ canceled, they only fit a narrow range for those earlier models depending on the spacer selected. So looking at the one in my garage won't help out.
I can't tell from the diagram if any of those spacers could be swapped into different positions. But if the #17 bearing in the left side of the wheel hub, is not seated against the longer spacer, then maybe it could be effecting your clearance issue. But I would think it would be very hard, if even possible to get the assy back into the swing arm.
All was OK before new bearings? Did you compare the bearings with the Old ones? Is something miss packaged or otherwise wrong from the kit?
When you sent the rotor out to be resurfaced, it was un-bolted from the hub? They only had the Rotor? Not the Hub and Rotor?

Removed rotor from hub left chain off put back in place and torqued down, spins freely no problem, can't believe it was the rotor, thanks for that suggestion, now I have to get a hold of the person I sent them to, did this almost 9 months ago and just getting it back together, hope it doesn't present a problem, will check front also just in case, unreal.
Thanks to all again, and BTW cranked it down real good(nut bustin good) no binding.
Mike

The Rotor is flat, right, not dished? It goes on either direction, or just one way? No way to mix up the front and rear? Different critters?

Glad to hear you found the problem. If the folks who refinished your rotor accidentally swapped it with one from another of their customers, I wonder if the other customer has contacted them? It seems they would have experienced a similar problem. Ed

Could it just be the brake pads contacting the rotor causing this? How much resistance to turning do you have? Can't see resurfacing causing it, cause it'd make the rotor narrower, unless its just plain the wrong one.

Mike, make sure you don't have your back rotor on the front and vice versa.

They are certainly different part #'s, although looking quite similar on the drawings. Ending in -005, and -010. Could they be switched around? They don't look flat so Front to Rear would be possible?

I'm not even sure that they can be switched, but I do remember my stock rotors being remarkably similar from front to rear. If memory serves, the rear rotor was slightly larger in diameter than the front. The thought just popped into my head that if they could be switched, that the offset might be different causing the bind. I would have to go look at the old rotors to compare. Seems that they are in my storage building. Hmmm.....

This is pretty humbling, but in my haste to get this together, I did have the front rotor on rear  , put the rear rotor on rear and all is well ,front too.
Well I learned not to rush, and that you guys are VERY helpful, maybe someone else will learn from my error.

Thanks again
Mike
