We did put the guide in the freezer and hit the hole with a bottle torch. also put permatex sleeve retainer on the guide then he tapped it in. I went out to the garage this morning just to see how i thought it did and man it seems tight. i pushed as hard as I could with my fingers and it didnt budge.

It should work. The seat should be ground to be sure the seat is centered. I dropped a valve in my Honda so that had to be done too. It was in 73 and lots of parts were available. I was making $3.25/hr at the time so it might as well have been $500. That hurt. I learned about valve adjustment the hard way.

I think thats why he said lap the valve and if anything looks funny bring it back and he would grind it

Give it a shot and put up pics of the valve and seat. You can use a black marker on the seat and valve to show the mateing surface.

Well i got the guide in nicely i thought?? When I put the valve in to lap it was perfectly clear the guide was crooked. So to the machine shop I went. The machinist re-cut the seat and ground the valve for me. Did a nice job! Now its time to go back together. The guy only charged me 10$ again. So sometimes its worth taking it to a professional. I will keep you guys posted on how the guide and that valve hold up.

Did he check the valve clearance and or tip the valve. Check it before putting it back together.

Are you saying I should bolt the camshaft into the head and check clearance before installing the head???

Maybe I should explain further. Grinding the valve seats and valves make them sit deeper in the head. Too deep the valves have to be "tipped" to restore clearance. I put new valves in mine and wish I had checked. One valve is set at 210. That means I'll have to do it again soon.

That's what I thought you meant. Question. If I need to take a little off can I carefully file the end of the stem??cause this valve is in the head further than the others so I'm sure I will have to be in the low end of the shims

Best to take it out and have it done. I thought about doing it myself while still together but I'd have to have a way to grind them square.

I wouldn't file it without removing it that's for sure.
