Take it to somebody who can get the guide straight in the hole,if the guide isnt straight youll be screwed trying to do a valve job.

Still recovering, some days are better than others.

When I do guides I send the head out for a three angle seat grind. Putting in new ones and lapping the valves is a crap shoot. When this happens, it's sure to be out.

I've had enough with this bike. I'm not gonna put another couple hundred into this engine over a single exausht valve.

I haven't added up all the money I have in Bossie this time around. Maybe someday I will, right now I ride the piss out of it and love every minute of it. Don't give up on the first bump.

over the 40 years I've owned my KZ1000, I'd be afraid to add up all the money I've spent on it.... because it deserves so much more!!!

I would agree don't give up on the first bump. but..... Ive had this engine apart 3 or 4 times this last year, partially cause of my lack of experience but man after the 4th head gasket man im getting tired of the back and forth. I want to get this bike back together right this time and be done with it. :( Im to the point of 3 little kids with all in baseball that I just dont have the time. Somthing watercooled shaft driven and fuel injected does sound nice some times. B)

This time use a straight edge on the head and block to be sure they're flat. Take your time and go by the numbers.

if you shoved the guide out with carbon still left on it.
it gouged the guide bore up enough that it will need to be at least reamed to straighten it up and make it round again.
because the carbon never drags the aluminum out in a nice straight bore.

it can be fixed.

well i took the head to a local automotive machine shop yesterday. he looked at it and decided to knurl the outside of the new valve guide. I asked is that reliable and he said in the 35 years hes been doing it he has never had one come back. so since I didnt have the new valve with me he said try to lap it in. if anything looked funny bring it in and he would cut the seat. he charged me 10$ hope it was money well spent

Did he install it back in the head..... thinking you should freeze it and heat the head before so you don't take more metal off right guys? This job scared me and had Ape do it since they were doing the valve job any way.
