Looked on z1 yesterday for the cir-clips- couldn't find them.
Anyone have an item number?

Might also consider using Teflon buttons in lieu of metal clips.

Good Fortune! :)

Am thinking careful measurement of the pistons at hand will be necessary to assure getting the correct size Teflon buttons.

I haven't checked as to whether any particular supplier might suggest or have a chart showing the perfect button size for a stock KZ1000 piston or otherwise.

Here's one example of info from a supplier:

That figures, have you ordered the rings yet? The clips come with the pistons. If they're not damaged and the wrist pin and slot are good, I'd re use them. You might call Z1 to see if they can get them if you don't have your rings yet. I've found some love to delay a project so they can sell more or just for fun. I had my piston order delayed because of one wrong piston. Three were correct but one was in the right box, the rings were right but the piston was all wrong. While talking to CS, I was asked over and over if there was something else. I said no and found another supplier. That's called marketing. Sometimes you have to vote with your feet.

Found the following:

OK , here is the lowdown on this subject,IF you want your engine to live a long and happy life.(And dont we all)
Use ONLY what comes with your piston kit!
The pistons/pins/clips come as a matched set and work together as a set.
If they come with wire keepers use them ONLY .
If they come with spirolocks use them ONLY .
They are NOT interchangable .
And wrist pin buttons are just that , they fit in the pins NOT the pistons (tapered pins)and are for SHORT term EXTREME uses ie VERY highly mantained engines.

Teflon buttons fit in the piston bore, not the pin itself. They work fine in long term application. Regardless of what came with your pistons, you can safely use teflon bittons instead. The only exception to this is some of the newer forging designs use a real short pin and the pin bpres in the piston are not out ar the cylinder wall as the old style pistons ( sull skirt). With those styles you have to use the supplied clips.

Jay

Here's the thread that includes the above quote and other info about the Teflon buttons:

I had some teflon buttons made up for a yoshimura project as the 0.8mm wire thickness circlips were unobtainable, but probaby cheaper to get genuine circlips if still available.

Reusing circlips is do-able but not worth the risk. Acceleration Inertia forces on those clips is higher than the bullet fired out of a breech! Every gram of reciprocating mass is over 1 kg in forces when the motor is running fast..

Is it 17mm wrist pins on the early kz too?
