check everything out before you start dumping tons of money into a non existing problem, theres plenty of very fast ol 900s and 1000s out there running the streets with the origional parts in their clutch baskets, for the most part its another one of those the racers do it so i need it also upgrades.
if the springs are broke/loose or deformed by all means replace them or just stick another basket in there off of ebay for $50
Still recovering, some days are better than others.

I am only suggesting that you check the springs and replace if broken or loose. Don't touch 'em if they look good.
Now just spread the two fingers of the shift lever over the shift drum on the right side of your picture, and the whole shift arm should slide straight out.

start by pulling the phillips head screw off the cover on outside of shift drum and the little spring on right side to remove the linkage and pull shift drum

no doobie ash in cuts...lolgood job on the zip locks...i also put a small card in the bag with the label in sharpie...it seems the only one that ever rubs off the writing on the baggie is the one that i always need and cant remember it's location..index cards are great back up...if a yr goes by the memory will not be needed........blue painters tape and a sharpie is good for bigger parts wrap around a stud or bolt ect......
