Thanks, I think I've got most everything ordered now. Yes the know-nothing kids in the dealer parts dept. are a common problem to say the least. I hate it when they assume THEY are the experts and talk down to ME. Stupid punks! ahem...

I pulled all the gears apart. Everything looks good and measures in spec.

What do ya think of this? The bearing on the left is the stock one that runs next to the countershaft sprocket. The one on the right is a new one I had left over from some previous non-KZ project. It's basically the same except it has 7 balls instead of 11. The ID must be just a hair smaller because it's snug on the shaft, so I'd have to press it on.

Should I use it? Free is good! It's Fafnir brand which means nothing to me.

Fewer balls means lower load capacity. Ed

CRAP! I just tried again to get the damn alternator off... Used a new bolt with no bearing and put so much torque on that it mushroomed and became difficult to get out. A few of the alternator threads closest to the crank have broken off now. I swear the thing is welded on.

I noticed Z1 sells a puller that is just a hardened bolt and no bearing. Maybe that's my solution so I can torque it more. It's the only idea I have left. Would a local fastener supply type place have a hard bolt of this size? What grade should I ask for?

12.9 is the strongest grade of metric bolts that I know of. Don't get one that is too long. The longer that they are, the more they act like a torque limiting device.

not much luck finding the bolt, so I just ordered the puller.

You probably would have paid that much for a hardened bolt in that size anyway.

But this part sucks.

That's the Motion Pro puller. I gave it full torque with the gun and beat it so hard that it bent and mushroomed the head. The alternator did not move at all.

I think I may drive it over to a tire place and have them hit it with the big airgun. I'm still worried about damaging the crank tho.
