Z1E's site kinda makes it look like you need the master link, but I guess not.
THanks for the link Leon, I'll probably buy those.
I think the springs on back of clutch are fine, but I haven't looked closely. What is there to look for other than busted?

I'm annoyed to see that the basket cannot be removed unless you split the cases. That seems pretty crappy to me, but I guess it's not likely to matter later on.

How about the head gasket? I was gonna buy a Vesrah gasket kit, but I imagine it comes with a head gasket that won't work with my 72mm 1075 pistons... and it's the most expensive piece in the kit. I'd like to buy the whole kit without the head gasket I guess... oh well.

the clutch basket will come off without splitting the cases.

give it a look nelson.you have to remove the pressure plate and the you will see a big nut behind the pressure plate.it has a lock tab that you will have to bend down.then grab the hub with a rag(be careful or you will take the tops of your knuckles off if you can't hold it) or take an old clutch plate and weld a bar on it so that you can use it to hold the drum while you zap the nut with your impact.once the nut is loose you can remove the basket.

I have the cases split now, so it doesn't matter. It just looked weird somehow... must be a case of operator error.

I just put an order in to Z1E but they don't have everything I need.

Where do you guys like to order OEM parts from? bikebandit or other online? I hesitate to click "buy" for fear I may be told later that half the parts are on back order or something.

Nelson, I have ordered through Bike Bandit with good success. Their website allows you to check their stock status. First you have to put a quantity in the column next to the part that you are interested in. Then, at the top of the chart there is a click-able button that says "availability." Click this button and it will put a picture of a clock in the column next to the quantity. You can then cursor over the clock and it will tell you stock status and estimated shipping time. I try and only order the stuff that they show in stock. If they need to order the part, it can delay your order significantly. Hope that makes sense.

I have had a couple of bad experiences with my local Kawasaki dealer in the past over parts orders. I generally prefer to order from my chair versus driving into Houston proper, fighting the traffic in the city, risking my car being broken into, and then having to deal with knucklehead parts guys who don't even call when your parts arrive. The last parts I bought from the dealer was fork seals and dust boots for the Ninja. He charged me $75 IIRC. Bike Bandit would be $55 plus shipping, so ordering from BB would be marginally cheaper. Dealer had to order the parts, and after 10 days, I called him to find out that my parts had been sitting on a shelf for 3 days with no call. BB gets to my door in 3 days if they have the part in stock.

Keep in mind that I worked a parts counter at a Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep/GMC dealership for about 4 years in the past. I know how parts departments are supposed to work. Most of the local powersports dealers don't take their parts dept. very seriously. If they ever stocked anything for hard parts I might still use them. I will periodically pick up a quart of fork oil or some adhesive, but that's about all the business they get out of me these days.

I guess i have been fortunate.
i lost a caliper pin from my race bike, so i ordered 1. the owner heard i needed it the same day the part was due in, so he brought me 1 in that he took out of his personal bike, just in case the new 1 didnt arrive in time.
i dont really know the guy either. i just know who he is.
i guess it helps to live in a lowly populated area ?
