Just a little update on the Dyna S DS2-1 tuning....

OK, this is a down and dirty (clean cut version) of the Dyna S installation and some of the issues and resolutions for an easy installation...

Hope it helps some others... It's truly an easy process.

So far tight and nice.... Same time, I still have the vacuum adjustments to perform....

I'm still in the first 30 minute cam break in period where keeping it at an non idle rpm setting. Need to keep her between 3000 to 6000rpm with the cooling fan on the motor.

So for now, I have the basic idle and now the timing completed where I'll obviously need to re-fine it later on. Tomorrow I should have the 30 minutes completed so putting her at idle while performing the vacuum synch shouldn't be a problem.

Updating my project....

From Carb Section.....

OK, low gauge readings resolved.....

In speaking with Larry C and Plummen & researching this dilemma, I was informed to check the camshaft timing... As posted and in the attached image (before on the left & after on the right) the intake CAM was off which was confusing... How much you ask, the cams are designed for 105 lobe centers....

So more questions had to be asked all of which led to getting out the CAM Degreeing kit and re-measuring/aligning.... Well low and behold, the intake was at 118 lobe center!!!!!!

How this happened... excerpt from Carb section....

After dialing in the cams, I degree'd in both cams. With the intake cam, I Inserted the two cams sprocket bolts with loctite & torqued down 11-12 ft lbs. On the remaining cam sprocket bolt that I was using for the degreeing process, I removed & added loctite. In torquing this bolt down, It freaking SNAPPED on me!

Oh yeah, wasn't a happy camper!!!! Plummen had a good chuckle on that one.... Guess what he said... "Well, WTF did you do that one for dumbph..."

With that in mind, take it all apart to remove (cobalt drill and easy out) the snapped bolt thread...

Now here's where I think I screwy uppy!

One bolt at a time, loctite and replace out of engine...
I felt that would be good, inserted all back in engine, torqued all the bolts, checked my 28 tooth count, all looked good... Bolt on the valve cover good right!....
WRONG!!!!

I should have re-checked both cams for degree accuracies, cam chain being taught, as well as the lobe timing etc... My lazy ass just didn't think, no doubt about it... My bad.... DUH!

Oh well, learn the hard way I guess, why change now....

With this in mind, re-adjusted the intake to 105, measured the exhaust which was still at 105, put her all back together and put the Keihin throttle valves back to how I received them.... Left the pilots out at 1.5 turns.

Wholly smokes, I was pulling the Kawi spec's of 8-9" @ 1200rpm... Now who would of figured!

Thanks Plum & Larry once again, you hit it on the nose where this was to be... Yes, having the needles in unison is important but gut feeling was something wasn't right and as it turned out, it wasn't....

Once I get her dialed in with the Morgan Carb-Tune, I'll put together a little tut on Keihin CR Specials...

Update for Kreem Blue Shield product...

As for those following my project, I applied this product to the inside of my Kerker header before starting her up.

Since then, I have been finalizing the tuning process where chrome header discolorations occur the first couple of hours or so of running. As can be reviewed in the attached image set, so far still shiny, no discoloration what so ever....

Not bad for $30 investment...

:woohoo: That sounds good, and looks goodB)

I usually coat the inside of the header with grill paint. If I ever get a new set I'm going to try that KREEM blue sheild.

While waiting for my Morgan Carb-tune unit, and now that I have a couple of hours running time (total) it was recommended to accomplish a compression and leak down test especially since my intake was recently found to be out @ 118 lobe center....

Off to my favorite shite store, Harbor Freight Tools...
Man I love that store......

Anyhoot, picked up a nice compression leak down tester for $30... Worked nicely and since not doing this everyday, what the hell did I have to loose... but $30...

www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=94190

Here's the results, all seem good to go!

Compression: warmed engine, all plugs out, full twist of the throttle....

NOTE: Expected a little higher but due to dual cylinder base gaskets (long story), compression slightly lower than spec'd 10:1 for this cylinder/motor... I believe that would be correct, in theory anyways....

Cylinders 1&2.... 150psi...
Cylinders 3&4.... 140psi...

From that, went onto the leak down testing @ 50 psi.... No leaks what so ever.... Thank the KZ gods....
So chances of me bending a valve have slimmed considerably....

From there, hooked up the new RPM meter (x10) and gauges and as can be reviewed at 1020rpm, idles fairly well....

My org dwell/tach seemed off to me... So.... Found a neat little Automotive DVM with tach capabilities...
www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=95670

All 4 gauges ~ the same but follow throttle response slightly different. Again, at this point in time, not sure if I trust these gauges fully.

For close enough or ball park, yeah sure but the Morgan adjustment/test should provide all required input and allow for tighter synch between all 4 carbs....
