I don't know about you guys but I always hated the job of spreading Honda Bond or equivalent product to seal cases. Seemed like I was always rushing and then worrying about did I get enough or not enough. I have been using Loctite 518 on the last 6 or so engines and will be joining a set of cases in the next few weeks. Stuff works great and is easy to apply without having  to worry about how much time I have to spread and get the cases bolted together. The sealant cures with the lack of oxygen. Which means after the cases are bolted together. Also any squeeze out supposedly will dissolve in oil and will not harden and break off to clog oil passages, however I try to avoid as much squeeze out as I can. I just split a set of cases that I did about 4 months ago and I would say I agree with the will dissolve in oil statement. I did find a few specks in the oil screen that were gold in color and dissolved easy between my fingers. If your like me about sealing cases give it a try

First time in for me, and I was nervous.  Thinking about it, I would do this again with much less trepidation.
When assembled the somewhat dry Threebond 1184 applied to both surfaces melded, as if blended together into one.

Does the heat damage appear severe enough to adversely affect the piston performance if cleaned up and reused?.    

No I don't think so. Put it together and RIDE THE PISS OUT OF IT.

Agreed, definitely got real hot on the centre two but there is no obvious signs of damage (crowns look good and all the flashing on the underside haven't burned off and the wrist pins look good) as long as they are still round (within factory tolerance) a good clean should sort them out (if you are replacing the rings a broken piece of the old ring (with the end ground square) makes a good tool for cleaning the carbon out of the grooves

Pistons looks fine.Wristpins not blue .Measure the ringlands and pistons if in spec they are good, but put new rings on.What about the liners are you going to put new ones in?

The liners are getting fitted to a set of Wiseco K1172 10.25:1 pistons, which I plan to install on this motor.

Would it make sense to sell these pistons with the 18mm crankshaft as a matched set versus individually?

Otherwise I need to come up with a plan for the functional engine that is currently hibernating in the bike for the Winter...

I use 518 to seal the damper bolt in the bottom of the fork. Never had a leak. I like this new idea

This piston set was originally installed with a bathtub head on my 82 motor in 2015.  The set was replaced with MTC pistons in 2019 which as of now have about 22K miles on them.

These pistons differ radically, but share 13008-5037 piston rings according to the Z1 Enterprises "details" but not "fitment information".  I have requested verification, though this subject has been addressed previously on the forum.  The ring land widths are essentially identical, and the skirts of both sets measure 42.47mm OD:

Not much ThreeBond 1184 squeeze-out inside the case.  The same outside was easily removed with acetone.
