Sounds like I should have posted before I purchased the relay and parts. Glad they were cheap!

what OMR said......we are not busting your stones....even if you show less than 12 at the coils with bike off and you show a charging rate of say 14.5 at 4k, you should be getting sufficient juice for a decent spark....the connection cleaning will only make things better.....

My sincere apologies. Since you are a new guy I should not have started out with this "Not so inside Joke" But it did get the effect i was hopping for from the old crowd. When you are on this forum a while you will understand it also. At this stage I usually get into trouble with the moderators with my big mouth, so i will let you learn over time since you are now on the right track and have nothing to loose and everything to gain.

Out of curiosity...

With out the mod installed, just OEM wiring to the coils through the ignition-kill- switch, with a properly charged and operating battery installed, what is the voltage to the coils?

If +12Vdc or higher with engine running, coil mod isn't going to help you...

Please keep in mind, our jesting at this mod is not directed at you per say... It's been debated to death and in most cases, installed and problem still existed...

Get some voltage measurements and post them and we'll get you on the right track for troubleshooting your problem...

OMR

The point that I make is that if there is significant voltage drop in series with the coil, that V drop is across something and that creates heat by power dissipation. If it is the fuse connector or a harness wire connector with V drop across it and current through it, it is going to get hot and fry which would cause major wiring failure.

can i get in on the fun too?

well i really can't.
i've got my pee pee slapped before for saying the same band aid thing before.
but this one should be fun to read.

screw it.
i did the coil mod and now i have cops pulling me over because my headlight was too bright and i picked up 100 hp after.

btw, i also have 100 gallons of snake oil you can pour into your tank that will make you able to outrun a zx14

someday i will be able to afford my kz habit.

These guys were once "mod"

OH...almost forgot...To the originator of this post..none of this is aimed at you. Just having some fun with "mod".

In all seriousness, it's best to just sort out your wiring issues than to band-aid the problem. Will it work? I'll just say this

Hey Keith,

I have a multi meter. Where do I start? I'm pretty novice with this KZ (electrical stuff). I did all the service on my other bikes, fluid changes, cable adjustment things like that. I'm sure with a little guidiance I can get it running like new.
