Well I'm not at home so it's not in front of me but I'm willing to say its prob an anomaly and it's the edge of the seal that's behind the advancer

I think it is a reflection of the machining of the actual notched shaft, pressed into the backing plate.... that connects to the crank.

OK then, the advancer is the right one, the cam timing is set correctly? There is even but marginal compression, the carbs have been done, there's spark. Have you tried starting fluid or carb spray?

So cam timing good. Great spark on all 4 cylinders. Valve clearances are in spec. Even used starting fluid. No start. Compression is still low.

Is ignition timing correct with F mark perfectly aligned with the case mark at idle rpm?
Are plug wires from the port-side coil attached to the outside spark plugs (as they are supposed to be)?
Are plug wires from the starboard-side coil attached to the inside spark plugs (as they are supposed to be)?
Is there any possibility that the signal wires to the ignition coils' primary terminals have been inadvertently reversed?
Good Fortune!

Red wires are on the common side of coils and black and green wires are on the positive side of coils.when you say signal wires reversed are you talking polarity?

Well unless anyone has anymore suggestions I will probably start tearing the engine back down tonight and inspecting valve seats and cylinder walls. Only other thing I can think of is turn the advancer 180. I know it's on there correctly now but I can't think of anything else to try and get this bike to fire.

Check out the new thread in electrical ....starter motor vs push starting ... might be a crazy idea but I've bump started mine in the old days after flooding it and running down the battery with one of my sons and wife more than a few times.
