bromz wrote: Well got the #2 exhaust to .110 so I think all my clearances are good. I checked compression and it is at 90psi. To damn low. I put a little oil in the plug hole and got 130. I won't have a chance to try to start it till tonight. Think compression will build with it getting hot once it's running?

Ride the piss out of it.

Well went to finally start the bike. Advancer was 180 out so I drained the 3 year old battery there. Rotated the advancer 180 and charged battery and it fired and died. Charged battery fired ran 20 or 30 seconds touched the choke and died. Charged battery never fully usually 50% and never got it to start again. Damn. So it's prob a dead battery and a little bit carbs. Man not sure where to go. I've messed with the idle screw so much I'm not sure where I'm at now. I should have just stopped and got a new battery

Guys I'm f.....ing stuck! New battery, carbs cleaned and bench synced, advancer lubed, new wires plugs, and this damn thing will not start!!! Is it possible I jumped a tooth on cam timing. I checked and recheck several times before I installed the valve cover!

Are you getting spark? I know you had it before but perhaps the coils are bad or you have a bad connection to the coils. Are you getting gas to the cylinders? I know this is basic stuff but sometimes it is over looked.

Are you running points or electronic ignition? Either way make sure the correct spark is hitting when it is supposed to.

Valve clearance is supposed to be 0.002"~0.004" (0.05mm~0.10mm).

Experience has shown that clearance may be up to 0.006" (0.15mm), especially on the exhaust.

Good Fortune! :)

Valve clearances are all in spec. My measurements are in mm. I and running electronic ignition. So going by the manual it is not adjustable other than rotating the advancer 180degrees. Which I have aligned it as the manual has said.

#2 exhaust at .02mm would be too tight.
But should not prevent the engine from starting and running.

Which electronic ignition (stock igniter; Dyna-S; something else)?

Good Fortune! :)

Do the timing marks on the advancer at hand look like any of the following examples?

well guys I think the engine has to come back apart unless someone has an idea. Good spark, good fuel, bad compression! 60 psi across the board! what next?

Wow all this only to find out you had low compression. THAT IS ONE of the first things you check for trouble shooting.
