Cut corners and you'll be doing it again...
Here's my setup:
1200cc turbo pistons
ATP Turbo kit with RayJay 370 turbo
electric fuel pump
Welded crank
main bearing support plate
HD cylinder and main bearing studs
Modified oil pan with deep sump extension
Oil pump optimized and modified for the deep sump pickup
MRE lockup clutch (the only way to eliminate clutch slip and an aching wrist from pulling in the clutch lever with HD clutch springs)
42mm HSR carb
Dyna 2000 ignition with retard map driven by boost sensor.
K&N Air/Fuel Sensor with readout.
Back in 2001 when I picked up the bike, it was newly rebuilt - but it had an awful Mikuni 2-circuit carb (snowmobile carb) that had no mid-range control - I dumped that for the HSR 42 fairly quickly. I soon found the previous owner skimped on the engine rebuild as the head gasket started leaking - after pulling the head off, I found stock cylinder studs - sigh.... The old Gerex igntion generated a fat spark, but used the mechanical advancer - no real way to control the retard so he had a water/alcohol injection system on the bike to help manage detonation issues, so that all went and was replaced with the Dyna 2000. THe clutch was an extra-disk clutch - but even with the stiffest springs would slip under heavy load in 3rd gear. That was pulled out and replaced with stock style clutch plates and an MRE lock-up clutch - A much lighter clutch action and it never slips now.
I only have the bike running 7-8 lbs of boost - but even with that an slightly tall gearing the bike will power wheelie in 2nd gear and you can feel the wheel going light in 3rd gear.
