can i bead blast my tranny gears?
I wouldn't bead blast any internal motor part that touches oil, including inside surfaces of cases and covers.

My guess is that they would know how and are careful to assure that no glass beads or glass residue remains inside the engine, whether loose or embedded in a beaded surface.
Am unaware of the latest techniques for removing glass bead residue, but am thinking extensive washing (perhaps power washing) and rinsing.
Perhaps being overly cautious, but not accepting risk of leaving any glass residue inside the engine.
Steel parts removed from the engine, such as gears, would be easier to thoroughly clean and rinse, where there's reason to glass bead them.

larry said a good carb or brake clean would be sprayed into the holes and case to remove stuck beads or residue.kz1k wrote:

Did the soaking in green cleaner, following power wash, not produce satisfactory results? :S

Then after you hot tank the cases, pressure wash the cases, wash them in the solvent tank....Run a tap through every bolt hole.....I'll bet you can still find sand or beads somewhere. Pull the pan on the motor after a very short time of use.....Whats that brown stuff in the bottom?
Other parts like gears are easy to get the sand or beads off of. Cases (inside) have oil passages that you can't reach, to clean out.
Don't do what others do, do what is in your skill level.
