River... "Dents in the bottom are routine? ".... You may want to do some further research into the "Ground Clearance" issues for based on what your hearing, there's several other variables that occur here...

NOTE: Not trying to tell you one way or another or start a flame war here with the others... Read on...

This occurs on all 4 to 1 exhaust systems regardless who makes it.... Here's why I say this as fact...

In my research I'm doing for fabbing my own exhaust, the math for designing a TUNED 4-1 KZ900/1000 header/exhaust system depicts 1.5" O.D. 30-34" Primary piping feed into a 4-1 collector that resides under the oil pan area...

In all the manufactures using a 4-1 design "Megaphone", to allow access to drain/oil filters they use a 2 over 2 collector. See attached image, top right. Something similar to this 2 over 2 design for 1.5" inlets or some variation of it..

With the piping being 1.5" OD and the collector inlet I.D. size being slightly above, there's only so much room under the engine case thus ground clearance that can be accomplished.

The tighter they design the piping to the lower engine oil pan and frame, the more clearance you'll have but there's truly only so much that can be done about this...

Again, all 4-1 systems will have this issue, no doubt, no way around it. Same time, also will depend on a few variables such as what type of road surface (ruts, rocks etc), rider weights and suspension setups... MXing a KZ  when this scraping occurs. Again, they all do it...

As in my design, I'm thinking the FLAT 4 into 1 concept for additional clearances. Especially in my KZ build ZX636 conversion where I only have 17" tires. Normal KZ's run 19" front, 18" rear so I lost some considerable clearance in that alone.

I only have 4-5" clearance and I've only scraped once... Like a dumbass, forgot about this fact while driving over a speed bump... Thankfully, was driving slow and only scrapped a little versus dent... Now I avoid or go slow/at an angle to speed bumps, hasn't occurred since. ;)

Hope this help out a little in this matter regarding ground clearances of a 4-1 exhaust systems...

With the mods I have, I find the Kerker to be a FAR better system for the street that the Wieseco (V&H) I'm running right now. Way more mid range and the roll on acceleration is much better that the V&H. I also have a very slight 3-4k burble that I just cant jet out, but when I put a Kerker on it was gone.

Anyone have a nice used Kerker for a broke Canadian? :P

" 3-4k burble"... Yup, I believe that to be the flat spot mentioned in sevral of the documents i have foound in my research...

It also has to do with the primary pipe diameter and lengths...!

As I'm finding out... For a tuned system to be dialed in for YOUR specific KZ or engine for that matter, displacement and cam exhaust BBDC are required...

As in my KZ900, my cams are designed for low to mid range performance. @ 5800rpm and in my clacs I'd want 1.5" OD pipe @ 30" for tuned perfection for my build of mid range power band... Putting a longer primary @ 34" would defeat the build... Would it work and run sure but.....

As will be posted soon (Yoshi posting), I have taken measurements from several exhaust I have and in provided measurements from others, diameters and lengths place a key importance for your builds...

I'm putting the final touches on the write up, should have it posted in a couple of days....

Truly interesting findings on how this all works hand in hand... It also brings up the JET issues have where works great for me but not for you....

The puzzle pieces are falling inot place...;)
