Question....

On these old Yosh pipe headers, finding the exhaust flanges are tacked into place...

With this in mind, do you still require the split collars?

OMR

No you do not use them because they most likely fall out and if you will notice, they won't even fit. These original pipes were made for Yoshi by MAC.

I haven't looked closely at mine yet, but I assume not.

With a pipe to I prefer new tech. Kawasaki made a full stainless pipe for the zr7-s that will bolt on to the 650-750's.

Kawi whipped up a newer design with the pipe; it has cross overs from 1 to 4 and 2 to 3 very shortly after the exhaust ports. I replaced a mac 4 into 1 and had to go up 2 more jet sizes (The bike was already 2 sizes over for the mac pipe and emgo pods) and I still had a bad flat spot from 7k on up (the last main jets must be close because with the choke on it pulled hard to the red).

The gringo and a few other folks have done this swap and everyone who has done it seems to like it.

New = better in my book; to much has changed since disco and leisure suits ruled the world.

MAC is one of the best flowing pipes around. That is why you had to go up so many sizes.

I only went up two sizes for the mac, the bike never ran right, but at that point I was happy it ran. I had sooty plugs and no power.

Shortly after changing to the zr7-s pipe I still had the sooty plugs, so I used the WG coil mod, and then I found bone white plugs; 3 main jet sizes later and I am still finding it runs better over 7,000 rpm with the choke pulled. To me that says I need a larger still main jet. I installed a wide-band o2 sensor; but the over worked charging system cannot cope with the amp's required to run it properly. Something I will correct with my winter project.

I know some folks love looking at spark plugs for hours and pretending to be gear-head sages of spark plug tech; but I loath jetting changes (perfecting instead to be riding!) and would rather be reading a nudie mag than a spark plug. I like numbers! and the wide-band will give them to me.

a pic of the bike when I bought it (I has already started tearing it down here)

as it sits today, still uglier than a pigs rear; but it runs well and all it's parts work. I must say I love this pipe, but I do hate the factory can. I have been looking for a slip on to replace it with (would love a yosh Ti tri-oval...)

That bike has beautiful bodywork! (OK, maybe I'm a little biased.)
