I personally love the old Yoshimura Mini pipes. I still have one on my first Z1R, and will never part with it. I just love the way they sound. The sound is crisp and clear and not a "drone" The only pipe I have found that sounds close is the no longer available Kerker "K" series and the still available MAC pipes. I just wish the Mac was of better Chrome Quality. I put a MAC on my 76 900, replaceing my Kerker. I fell in love with it. The nice part about MAC is that they are cheap enough that you don't mind replacing them every few years. I believe that MAC will be the only "off the shelf" pipe available in the not so distant future. At half the price of other pipes, I don't mind. As i mentioned before, I love the "crisp" sound.

I'm not too knowledgeable about a Z1B I have that I might be getting ready for restoration, it has some Kerker pipes, they all go into one outlet on the right side of the bike, they are all rusted but have no dents or holes that I can see, what are they called, 4-1's? And whats the best way to restore these if they are the original pipes, sandblast and re-chrome or something else?

Kerker as well? Well don't that just suck ass!

Ah well, all the more reason to really dive into Fabbing my own....

That is almost exactly what the old Yoshi pipe looked like. Come to think of it I believe that the MAC does also.

The best bet is to paint the rusted pipe with a good header paint or wrap them.

They are not stock pipes for the "Z". Those reproduction pipes cost $1500.00. Roy

So far into researching this design, the look and performance due to unobstructed exhaust flow will be more as in this image....

I hope that this picture posts OK. This is a scan from a November 1978 Cycle World. This is the little Yoshi I am talking about, that I love so much.
Well I guess that it is too big. Let me try again. OK I shrunk it to 50%, let me try again.

If I'm not mistaken that IS an old yosh pipe. I have one home that's going on the 650.

Question....

On these old Yosh pipe headers, finding the exhaust flanges are tacked into place...

With this in mind, do you still require the split collars?
