When I rode my cousin's HD, my cajones were much larger than when I ride my Japanese scooters...

I've asked women over the years why they like Harleys.
The universal answer?
Harleys have that certain 'vibration'. Several have told me their favorite "ride" is at stop lights on hard tails. And if the timing is right, they like a full torque take off when the light turns green. :woohoo:
I suppose if I was single and looking, I'd keep that in mind. ;)
But it's not just v-twins. I had a Norton that did the same thing to a few girls I knew way back when.

Kind of like why is a favorite color a favorite color. Any mechanical beastie operating as it was meant to operate to me is pleasurable. Pick the right machine for the right job and you are 100% good to go....be that v-twin, twin, thumpers, inline 4, flat 4, 2 stroke, 4 stroke, gas or electric, hyperintensive improbability generator, warp engine, sterling engine, horse, twisted rubber band, particle accelerator, rocket, steam engine or any of hundreds of others. Just best not to limit your horizons and get pigeon holed into believing one way and only one deserves merit or longevity. B)

Image. Plain and simple people are trying to replicate that bad boy image. Its like askingh why do you buy Levis' jeans. Its a recognizable brand and is concidered cool so again image. Acutally HD is brilliant in the fact they have created this brand and the people are so loyal they will spend what ever is needed to get one. That is incredible marketing if you think about it. There arent too many things like that in the consumer world.

I too would love a v-twin if it was italian and red.

What's the average age of a V-Twin rider? 50? 60?
I'm thinking that the average age of a sport bike rider must be about 22.

Point is, a 55 year-old rider probably isn't that concerned with between-the-light performance. They (we) tend to ride conservatively, and take few risks.
V-twin cruisers are big and shiney, have good reliability, and are (apparently) easy to ride for long distances.
Sorry, but that's my idea of fun ridin'. I don't own a V-Twin because they're way too expensive for me, so I have a Voyager. It's a sofa compared to the 900, with all kinds of gadgets to play with.

no one motorcycle can satisfy the needs i have for motorcycles.so i have acquired
5 kz's
1 1980 fl shovelhead
1 1969 triumph t120
1 2002 buell blast
i like gas engines in almost any configuration, sure i have my favorites.
but i do not wear blinders when it comes to motorcycles.
if it has two wheels,i could be found grinning like an idiot while riding it.maybe i won't be grinning for the same reason on every bike, but i will be grinning.
