Case in point. Last week I spent a couple of days in Wichita and had the opportunity to share the light with a few bikes. Invariably, the non-V-twin riders just rode their motorcycles and let them idle at the light. The V-twin riders were constantly wanking on the throttle. The morning I left I stopped at a QT for gas. Somewhere at one of the other stalls a bad @ss wanna-be cranked up his big twin and wanked on the throttle until he pulled out of the drive onto the street and then wanked it open the whole 200 feet or so to the light, wanked it some more and then flogged it under through the interstate and then went somewhere (I was leaving by that point).
Loud pipes. Check.
Anti social attitude. Check.
No protective gear. Check.
Making another motorcyclist proud to have a Biker Friendly sticker on his truck? Nope.

Could be , But mabee this will answer your question once and for all:)
Married to the Hog: It’s not about gas prices
By Dr. Patricia A. Farrell, Ph.D.
October 7, 2008
ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, NJ –– Legions of hog lovers gather each year for the annual meets in cities both large and small around the US and wherever they meet, they are greeted with a mixture of awe and trepidation. They are, of course, Harley-Davidson motorcycles, but they could be Honda, BMW or Kawaski and their riders, according to research, are getting older and older. The pony tails are white, the washboard stomachs are gone and arthritis is stiffening the riders’ frames, but the spirit lives on.
As the price of gas has risen, the allure of the bike has gained new interest from those who always wanted one and those who dared to dream of that “Easy Rider†way of life. What draws people to this classic or, for that matter, to the motorcycle at all? Don’t people read about how dangerous they are? There are several provocative things to say about the matter.
When we look at motorcycles, what do we see? Raw, untamed power and a sense of freedom? Perhaps. But what about the sexuality of the motorcycle? Where else are you going to get over 100 hp between your legs and keep it there for hours? It’s sexual gratification on an incredible scale. Think how many people jump on top of their washing machines during the spin cycle, straddle canister vacuum cleaners or hug the input jet in the swimming pool. What are they seeking? The ultimate orgasm without the dangers associated with motorcycle riding. Household major appliances really are multi-purpose, aren’t they?
There is something else associated with motorcycle riding and it just might be the thrill of living a sort of ‘rebel’ life. There are so many myths about who rides bikes that, if you asked most people, they’d probably come back with the expected stereotypes.
Today’s average rider, however, isn’t the beer swilling, swaggering Marlon Brando or “The Wild One†type. More often they may be software engineers who have a secret wish to get out of their ‘by the numbers’ world, or ‘empty nesters’ who now have the kids out of the house and are going to drink in that new-found freedom and, perhaps, capture some bit of their lost youth.
A third group would be composed of those who have a personality type we call ‘Type T’ or thrill-seekers. They love the thrill of the wind in their hair and the possibility that they may play with their fate and take risks to pump up that adrenaline. It’s a motorcycle-engendered high and probably most hog riders enjoy a bit of all of these emotions.
One fact that may be lost on most people thinking about these “sinful†pleasures is how the motorcycle’s forbear, the bicycle, was once seen.
When the two-wheeler was originally built it was seen as an invention of the devil and parents were warned not to let their girls go out with men who rode them. It proved to be, however, just what young couples needed; a cheap means to escape the watchful eyes of chaperones.
If I were going to characterize motorcycles in two words, what would they be? “Motorized Viagra†for both men and women.
