This is today's "shoe report", by his wife.

"Good morning all,
Well Dave has moved from ICU to a step-down unit (critical care unit). He'll likely be there for a few days, assuming everything remains stable, then they plan to move him to a regular room and begin therapy. That should be for a couple of weeks then he should be home, Dave of course wants that to take less time but also wants to be more independent, go figure. He still has a long recovery road but we are thankful that he is improving each day. We appreciate all the prayers and we are letting him know everyone that has written or called, thanks! Love, Sheryl"

Good news indeed! ;)

Man, that's good news after the bad news. I just logged on for the first time in awhile and.....I hate to see stuff about someone getting whacked by some dumb cager !!!
Get well soon, Dave and don't rush things with the whole process. Pay attention to the docs and therapists and follow their program(s). We need you, man....cafe rules !!!
Heal up and hopefully you'll be back on the road soon.

Everytime I hear a story like this I consider selling all my bikes and giving up riding...The risks are just around the next corner. Thankfully he is made of tough stuff and this looks like it will have a happy ending. But I'm sure I will think about this evertime I get on a bike, no matter how alert and skilled you are they will try to kill you. Hoping you have a speedy recovery.

There is no harm, actually it's good, having a respect for the risks associated with riding. Do what you can to improve your skills as one's skills can seldom be too high.

On the plus side, it's great news to hear of Dave's recovery in progress.

Oh damn! Just now saw this thread!
Praying for a speedy recovery for Dave!
Yet another reason I believe ALL motorists should learn to ride a bike, before they can qualify to drive a cage.

Been away for a week or so, so I missed this news. Damn, I hate reading of these accidents, but is there any one of us who has not witnessed some stupid, life threatening behaviour from some driver at some time (probably within the last couple of weeks) - and cell phones just scare me to death!

Good to read that Dave is getting better - and my best wishes go out to him, and his family.

Ride smart guys - and stay aware - they are out to get us!

His wife or maybe daughter ??? answered his phone and told me what had happened !!! Damn !!!! Shoe has been a big help for me lately and we've become friends. Here's the latest, I thought they had already done the work to his hand but apparently just some of it. Let's hope his surgery goes well and he's home soon!

"xs's e-mail from shoe's wife last evening, this is the latest report on the "shoeman":

Hi,
Just got home and Dave is slowly recovering. Surgeon was in this evening and since leg and vitals are stable he is going into surgery in the morning to set and pin one of his broken fingers. Dr. said it will be best in the long run so he will be able to use it and wont be as painful. Still a great deal of pain. Dave will be moving to a regular room if all stays stable after surgery on Wednesday and then the aggressive therapy will start. Thank you for all the prayers. Sheryl"
