Yes it was my brother, the engine builder and electrical guy. It put him in the hospital 3 weeks ago and just now recovering.

I went to the usual "Amazon"/"Ebay" here in the UK for mild steel parts, stainless is also available but I don't have much experience with welding that. Using the flexi pipe means you can see what it's going to look like before you wade in (again same sources) it comes from the car world where older cars have a hose from the exhaust manifold to the airbox

We did some chain alignment calculations and came up with needing a 3/8" offset counter sprocket. I believe I have sourced one so should be checking that off the list. Last two obstacles are the shock stud extensions and figuring out the exhaust bend needed. 

 
 


 

 

Where did you find a sprocket (they are tricky to find for a “J” motor) I got my 18 tooth from Germany in the end (18/46) 530 I went 18 on the front as it’s the same diameter as the original 15 tooth 630. Hopefully this means the chain won’t eat the swingarm ?

Ebay. It's a 17 tooth with the 3/8 offset i needed. the rear is a 42tooth, I think it will work out ok? I am going to try and adapt the chain [skidplate?]to the ZRX swingarm.  3/8" 530 16 TOOTH WIDE TIRE OFFSET SPROCKET KZ1000 Hayabusa GSXR GS1100 DRAGBIKE | eBay

Have you fitted it yet, that add is for the earlier "Z" motor (pre 1981) I was under the impression you were running a "J" motor ? others will confirm but I don't think they are interchangeble
This is what I used but it's only 3/8 so you may need to take the difference out of the sprocket carrier as I did

10mm offset sprocket Z18/530 for all Z 1000 J, R, GPZ 1100 B1, B2, GP, 99,00 €

Yes , thankfully the person called me to confirm what I had ordered and after a lengthy discussion over ratios and such he had one left that would fit the J motor. The counter shaft on J is 28mm as to where the other is 25mm, if I remember our discussion correctly.   I will confirm after I receive it but am confident he knew what he was saying. Thank you for the link as if this one isn't correct I will have a backup. I was thinking if the stock sprocket bolt would still be long enough after moving it out that much? 

Stock bolt will be fine, the gear is like a “top hat” so not any thicker on the mounting plate
