This "my way is better than your way" crap is getting old. Takes the fun out of this site and hobby.

...Wow! Just seeing this for the first time. While I respect your right to do whatever you wish to your property, I believe you made a poor choice for your project starting point. I'm all for Cafe projects, I have one going myself. But, I started with a '79 KZ650 that was trashed. The idea, for most, is to turn a Turd into a Sparkling Gem.

...It makes my heart ache, because I'd give my left nut to own that bike, pre-hack. It's a chance of a lifetime to own such a rare piece in such pristine condition. To turn around and strip it down into a Cafe Racer is just...well, un-Holy! Fact is, it was a Cafe Racer to start with. One of the finest to ever roll out of any Japanese factory.

...doing what you did, is like taking this...

...and turning it into this...

...when you could have done the same, with this!

...oh, my!

Oh, are you just now figuring that out?

How about this, put the shoe on the other foot: I get pretty disgusted by all you who defend his actions. Is my disgust somehow more valid than yours? No? Hmmm...

To Guitargeek and the rest of the funky bunch (you know who you are ;) ):

Why do you waste all of your energy on this? Seems like you've made my build into your own personal crusade... spend this energy on something constructive instead, like working on your bike, riding your bike, or chopping up your bike like me  . Or go play with your kids, your ding-dong, or whatever...

Man, grow up!

If you guys want to discuss whether it is ethical or not to chop up a classic bike, you can go do that is some other thread. Make your own topic and discuss your asses off. I don't really care any more for your opinions, as you are simply beating the dead horse (ref. 531blackbanshee).

This topic is for people who are interested in this particular project, and have constructive meanings about the way the build is implemented. Also the intention from my side, is to give others ideas on how to solve similar builds, and see that you can make a decent bike in your own garage without being a professional mechanic.

Thank you.

Ever heard the phrase, "measure twice, cut once"? That applies to more than just cutting lumber.
You didn't do any research on this before you started, did you?
Yes, as we've established, it's your bike and you can do whatever you want with it. But if you're going to cut up a nice bike like that, you'd better bring your A game... which you don't seem to have developed yet.
This is a public forum, Tommy. If you didn't want to read negative opinions, you should have kept it to yourself.

Guitargeek: you seem to be a man (you make me wonder sometimes  ) with too much time on your hands. I have no beef with people commenting on my solutions or craftmanship for that matter. I value and respect people's opinions about my work, positive or negative. This is not what you are doing, your opinions seem to me clouded by the dark side, and the dark side being that this is a '83 KZ1000R.

As i said in my previous post, I am no builder of profession, merely a guy on a quest to build a bike within the constraints of my abilities. Your bitching and wining is not going to change any of that. You are simply a bump in the road or a bug squashed on my visor, on my way to achieving this. To put it in simple words: you are the pain in my ass.

I thought we were all on this forum because we enjoy working on our motorbikes, riding on our motorbikes and exchanging experiences, good and bad, with people that have this great interest? What is YOUR motivation for being here, other than pass your time?

Don't know about everybody else, but this is not why I am here, to use my time on arguing with people. I'd much rather be posting something constructive. This is the last post I will waste on arguing with you. If you have an opinion related to anything build-wise in this thread that might help me or others, you are welcome to share. Otherwise: Shut the fuck up!

Peace.

Tommy's right.....I think its all been said, more than twice, maybe four times. I'm not riding the guy anymore. I have said all that I'm going to about the R2 past mod.

Now he just said STFU to one of the forum guys, guitargeek who is a good guy- not a good idea, as its just going to stoke the fire, but I think Tommy has had enough of it and could use a cease fire.

Tommy has hung in there pretty well despite the chit storm. I want to apologies if any of my comments bothered him.

One thing that bothered me was BOZO's comment on page 1.

BOZO's comments?!!

What is unbelievable is this thread made 6 pages in just 5 weeks. Used to much slower rate of replies on most threads in this forum. Good to see you all still have pulses. :P

I personally would not have taken that particular bike to where it is now. That being said, Good Luck Tommy. Hope it turns out to look and ride like you want.
