First off: It's an 83 ELR, they were not quite as rare as the 82. I owned an 82, and sold it in 1992. Glad I did too I constantly worried about theft.
Secondly the replica bikes were the best Z frame made, so why not do what you want. Lets encourage the guy to do with his bike what he would like to. MAN.. there is some ugly stuff said here. I don't know the exact production numbers of the 83 but they did not ell all of them the year they put them on the floor. The are near identical to the ELR, but do not have Lawson's signature on them.
So let it go...
Now I say:
Nice bike !

I am the die hard Lawson fan, I believe that partially because he is so "quiet" he is possibly the best and most underrated rider in the history of US racers.
You would think Rob Muzzy would have the ELR the factory gave him in his living room. The factory gave away the serial number 000021 to Lawson and another I can't remember the serial number to Muzzy. This was the 82 model as a reward for the championship efforts in 81 and 82. Lawson I think sold his a few years later (I think) Muzzy is rumored to have literally sawed his in half.
Apparently Muzzy was not too happy about things. So if the god of speed in the 80's can saw his bike in half, then I recon' this guy should be able to modify his without fear of a witch hunt...hoo-wahh?

I think I should probably leave this site as I have done something terrible.
I have ridden my bikes in all sorts of bad weather
I have crashed them
I have changed bits on them
I have painted them
I did not realise that I should not do these things.
I never realised that KZ ownership was about money.
I thought it was about pleasure.
Could you tell me what bike would be ok to modify?
I know some would say the one you own, but that seems not to be true.
If you want to save these bikes you should buy them all and vacuum seal them to save any more damage.
Whatever you do don't ride it out where weather and other traffic may damage it.
don't even remove it ever again from its protective bubble
Well said!!
Thumps up from me......
