- Elitist, arrogant, intolerant, self absorbed.
But don't expect enthusiasts to support what you're doing.
You took a rare bike that was in great shape and you've butchered it.
It won't matter how your project turns out, you have still butchered a rare bike in nice condition.

This kind of reminds of a song I once heard, only it wasn't about me I'm sure you know the chords, take out the old axe and strum along:
Sorry, just could not resist that one.

Lets not be personal, they are just bikes!
We can all do what ever we want to we what ever we have after all, its not like he destroyed 100k bike.
I bet that his project will look much better then most bobbed, cafe'd and dragged bikes that many on this site built or bought!

I guess you're still pretty new around here, huh?will61310 wrote: I'm sure there are several Z1's on here that have been altered as well. They are quite collectable, and bring big bucks too. Don't hear anyone crapping on the guy that hacks one of those up around here..
To bring in another guitar analogy...
If you have a vintage amplifier, say a pre-CBS Fender, you can mod it however you like, but don't drill any extra holes, and make all mods reversible. Otherwise, you're an asshole, and you deprive the world of an unmolested vintage amp.
What this bike and a vintage guitar/amp/whatever have in common is that they're not making any more of them. There are only so many 1954 Stratocasters in the world, and they're only in like-new condition until they're not.

That's the first thing I noticed when I came to this site, there's alot of passionate and opinionated dudes on here. I get that and fully respect their passion, It's a good tradeoff for their knowledge. I used to build and sell old Mustangs and it broke my heart when people chopped up dashes to put cd players in or completely destroyed the rear structure using air shocks, silly stuff I know.
To each their own, as said above, but I'd probably move your build over to dotheton or grow some thicker skin.

Not really a newbie, been here almost 5 yrs. With all the pissin and moanin about what HE should, or shouldn't do with HIS bike, I've yet to see anyone make him an offer to try and buy it and "Save" it from him. Your guitar analogies mean nothing to me, I couldn't tell a '54 strat from any other guitar next to it in the store.guitargeek wrote:

He hasn't offered it for sale. It is his bike, his to destroy, to keep, to sell, to crush, etc. Doesn't mean he should or that it even makes any sense to do it. It would have made much better financial sense to sell it and start with something cheaper that has a similar engine. But it is HIS bike and HE can do what HE wants with IT. And HE can deal with the crap that comes from cutting up a classic.

That would be a little difficult since he's across the pond in Europe.

Dude, the damage is done. Had he floated the idea before he started hacking, no doubt someone on this board would have made him an offer. As it stands, he did the damage, then posted about it, implicitly saying, "Hey, look what I did! What do you think?"will61310 wrote: With all the pissin and moanin about what HE should, or shouldn't do with HIS bike, I've yet to see anyone make him an offer to try and buy it and "Save" it from him.
For what it's worth, so far he seems to be taking the criticism better than his supporters.
WE KNOW WHO'S BIKE IT IS!! If you don't want people's honest opinions, you should probably stay off the internet.
