All kidding aside, you're idea was what I was planning, but by the time I started to sketch out what would be left once trimmed down, it made sense to try this.

i like your idea because it doesn't involve a separate piece for the stop.

So not much to update. I cleaned up a few more things and powder coated them to match.
I also needed to clean the inside of the cases prior to reassembly. I did my usual hot pressure wash and EASY OFF oven cleaner. This time though something went wrong and turned the cases dark grey on the inside. So now I am having to clean and polish the insides of the cases and will probable soda blast the hard to reach areas. I don't know if the darkening would be a problem to leave, but oh well.... Top case is almost done.
Then I tried 2-stage powder coating prior to doing my carbs. Ignore the texture as there was an issue.... I want to see if it matches my paint tomorrow when I get a sneak peak from the painter. If it doesn't, will need to try something else....
Speaking of carbs......the work begins. Need to get the two center fuel bowls chromed. They came with 120 mains and 15 pilots. so I need to pick up some additional jets. Things look good and there is a lot of good parts in them including the rubber shaft seals. Also has the knurled A/F screws for external adjustment. Thinking about getting some different Mikuni needles and try my luck instead of DJ or FP kit.
So next is soda blasting the carbs.......That is it for now......

Soooo.....got a call that the items were done from Powdercoating. Rush to go pick them up to find that they messed up the powder coat on the frame and bent one of my mounting tabs up..... They are going to fix it and asked they try and fix the tab as well. Not holding out with much hope they will...I'll just have to fix it and hopefully not F'up the finish. All this and it was more expensive than anticipated.
One down side to moving to the "Low Country" is the lack of proper services.....
Rant over....

oven cleaner has lye (Sodium Hydroxide) in it this causes aluminum to oxidize which is why it turned the cases dark, it shouldn't be a problem other than cosmetic.

Thanks Doc for that. I understand the chemistry, it is just I have never had that happen before when using it? The outside of the cases didn't do that and brake calipers didn't, etc.... I have used it on a number of aluminum, un coated brake calipers in the past prior to rebuild and paint. Just odd..... Anyway, thanks again.

Just got back from a 1759 miles in 28 hours ride and had a little teaser from the painter. Base coat is done with 2 coats of clear. Still needs to be cut. Then the pinstripe will get painted on and then 3-5 coats of clear laid over that. Then cut and polished. More pics to come....

It use to happen all the time on my bike. Now I think it was a weak oil pump. Still want one though.

Re: '76 KZ900 (ZRX1200R) Build
14 Jul 2016 19:26Unless the pump has crap through it they should last forever without deteriorating too much, my Z1R standard used to surge oil under hard acceleration, when my motor was in current form is was really bad so I stuck a hinge in the sump.swest wrote: It use to happen all the time on my bike. Luckily no (visible) damage occurred (usually to the far end crankshaft bearing, after many/lots miles my brother's Z900 had this problem ) . The cam bearings seem to work with little or no oil (try that on the new heads that run cams).
