Still an option. I might just do that when I go efi.

Post a picture and details of your setup if you dont mind. 2 things about the zrx guages I dont care for are the speedo is cable operated and the covers are plastic. I thought the 1100 where chrome steel. I would much rather have had real chrome steel than chrome plastic. I should have asked about that before I bought them for $100.

if u want to sell the zrx gauges, i would be interested.

I have read that you cant just clear coat it because it is porous and you can still get rust under the clear coat. Maybe there is a special automotive clear for doing this.

Anyone ever hear of flame coating with aluminum? or thermal coating? I saw a link where a guy sprayed a 2-3mm layer of molten aluminum on his tank and polished it to look like an aluminum tank. Just wondering if anyone had experience with this?

I would bet you could put it in a room with an A/C or dehumidifier and remove almost all the moisture first.

i dont know anything about it ,but i have seen shows on tv that show a bike with a metal finish. they texture the surface with a grinder. so there must be a clearcoat that works on bare metal. just ask at your local paint supplier, or go to www.autobody101.com/forums/ there is a forum of expert painters there. they will know.

There was a member here who painted a 650SR with a bare steel tank. What he did was to use an adhesion promoter and then went straight to clear coat. All I know is that it looked good. I don't know how well that treatment would last. Maybe forever if the bike is garage kept.

I have used this stuff before with good results painting to plastic and aluminum parts which are both difficult to get paint to stick: www.repaintsupply.com/pd-bulldog_adhesion_promoter.cfm It goes on clear, so it won't affect the bare metal effect that you want if decide to clear over it.

Here is an example of an aluminum flame coated tank. This is what I would like to go with but I don't have a clue where and how much it would cost.
