Thanks Bad Kaw, I went for my first ride today. Good and bad. It rides perfect. Handles exactly the way I would like and feels really light. The bad is the engine I have has a knocking sound when it is driven. It seems to be coming from the transmission. It doesn't follow the revs of the engine but just a steady knock every second or two. Makes the same steady sound when I pull in the clutch and still rolling. Seems to be worse in 4th. Anyone have a clue to what this could be? Shifts fine, and does not grind or anything. I suspect the crank maybe?

Things in the works..
zrx1100 seat on the way
gpz 750 turbo airbox on the way
gathering megasquirt efi parts
exchanging LiFePo4 8 cell for a 12

I would find an empty stretch of straight road and try the following: Bring the bike up to speed (30 or 40 mph should do); click the tranny into neutral; cut off the engine. Now you will be drifting along quietly. If the knocking still happens you can rule out the crank and other engine parts, and you can rule out most of the tranny. It may be the chain kissing something or the countersprocket doing something weird. Or, it could be totally unrelated to drivetrain stuff and turn out to be the centerstand or sidestand bouncing and hitting something under the bike. Ed

Checked the countershaft sprocket being tight? More than a few bikes have had this move around on the engines output splined shaft.

Uh Oh....

grafting in a zx6r junction box for turn signals, fuel pump relay etc...Not rideable at the moment so I'll worry about the trans/engine noise later. Might be EFI before i ride it next.

Did you end up changing the forks, or turning them to get rid of the gold?

Ok, I through it back together so I could take it for another ride and see what what up with the noise
coming from the transmission. Trying what was suggested by getting it up to about 40 and shutting the engine off and it still made the same noise while coasting both in gear with the clutch pulled in and in neutral. Any idea what the problem could be?....... It made the same noise when I bought it and test drove the police bike so I think I can eliminate the sprocket and chain since they are brand new and it still makes the same noise. It seems to make a metallic click on 1 second intervals when going about 40 mph and the click gets more violent the faster I go. I also noticed the clutch seems to be slipping at about 1/2 throttle.
