"makes me wonder though if it would be worth checking"....

By all means for that little offset could be a couple degrees off, advanced or retarded... Or one being advanced and the other being retarded... whoa!

What's your timing light inform you of at idle and 2500rpms?
Check/align for 1/4 then 2/3 as well.... Then go for a ride.... B)

GOT IT RUNNING RIGHT!!!!!! :) :) :) B) :)

went for my first ride since struggling home the day i bought it...only went 3 miles to get gas and back...went with the 29 smoothbores and a jardine pipe and pods...the vance and hines was not jigged right when made or somthing needs fidging to snug it and i am not wasting time today on it... i guess cause it was not sitting agianst the exhaust ports even imo...the jardine works great and lined right up...plus it has the split collars already in place permanently from jardine....

the rearsets are cool and really just in the same place as doing the peg flip old school trick...but they look cooler..

need to go up on the mainjets it seems a little squishy...lean...

other than that i'm just gonna take it slow anmd get it to where it is safe to mount avons and start pushing it to work out the handling...

got on it once coming back onto the highway from getting gas.....smiles...it cooks, sounds killer and gets right up to warp hyper traffic speed... great feeling when it fired off and timing got straightened out...great feeling easing it into a few sweepers coming up my caynon...great feeling pulling in the driveway and doing a mini burnout...it was a long time coming!!!

good day to be on a kawasaki

the bike looks GREAT B) .
Congratulation, on a fine job. :)

Where, in relation to the throttle position, is it, that the carbs dont feel right?
If the mains were off, it would be at 3/4, to full throttle.

Looks awesome too! Glad to hear it's running well. Still can't believe the deal you got on that!!

Sorry if you already covered this, but how did you finally time the ignition? Are you using the stock plate?

well it just feels sluggish to rap up even just sitting in the yard throttle blipping and then it feels quirky coming into the throttle on an on ramp or feeding a litte gas mid sweeper ect....compared to the same carbs on a supposedly tired out stock 903 with a supertrapp and quite a few baffle disks ie free flowing...the green 900 was also my riding bike for so long i may have "learned" to drive those carbs.....it's nothing too bad on the MKII and i have a nice morwaki muffler that i wanna mate to the jardine head/mid pipes soon...so we'll see...

i mounted the adapter plate and had to file the oblong slotted tank hole on the MKII tank to match the round hole of the 3/8 screw on petcock and adpt hole...well....i musta filed the thing a tad shy and the petcock started threading hard...no problem...just tighten it though the tight spot....stupid Craig...stupid stupid Criag...

it would not back out to try again and got wedged cross thread and was all i could do to remove the spin on petcock from the plate....ruined 1/3 of the starting threads on the new cheapo petcock and may be able to chase the petcock embeded thread material from the hardened adpt plate later and save that $$$ piece...but kept moving and just replaced the stock leaker and put a nipple on the vacume nip and ran it on prime the whole time.....seeems to be fine...wonder if i would be able to mount the vm33 with the clearnace but for now i'm shopping another set of 29's????anyone????

As far as timing the 1/4 and 2/3 marks were not so far off as i thought...actron light ...from auto store ...and the DYNA III i had (the only one i've seen without slotted mounting holes)did not have any 1/4 circle slots to "twist" the whole blue plate for rotating the pick ups...i used a tiny socket and loosened each pick up and messed with it that way...i think i will be getting a DYNA S though soon.....those tiny screws that come through the blue plate to hold the pick up dont poke out strong -straight- they lean a bit really... and when i went to mess with one by removing the nuts and pulling aside a the 1/4 pick up...i could see they were nothing more than tiny pan heads? poking through the blue plate and not even secured to it just the pressure of being tight holds them straight...not!!...wobbly and lets the pick up lean towards the rotor a tad imo...i could have(p.o prob did)easily over snugged em and changed the angle of the dangle a smidgin idf i was not being careful....

but i'm not complaining...i also put a new battery in there...WAL MART :woohoo: ...and i was impressed by the material and quality of their battery...came with acid a really nice box..idiot fold out instructions and tips on care.. and i get 9 bucks if i take em an old one with the receipt final cost at the reg with tax and core charge 40..B) ...10 outta 10 review imo....hmmmmmm...lets see if i get a few yrs outta it!!!!

when installing the battery clear down vent hose i musta pulled on the DTNA III feed wires by the rear brake frame rail and the bike only ran on 1/4 at first...i was perplexed and 15 minutes later after inspecting coils testing plug spark(danger) and tracing wires found my mistake..wires plug secured and whoommph......smiles all around

time to start riding ...off to the beach with the dogs and check my funds and AVONS in the mail today baby....peace

Wow, as nice as it looked when you brought it home it really looks a lot better with the black engine IMO. Really looks super nice. Find a stock set of bodywork and you're selling that MKII for big big dollars. Very cool.

Sorry if already mentioned, but has advancer function been assured by using a timing light to watch it move quickly back and forth as rpm is varied by blipping throttle?

Could also help verify Dyna III timing by noting position of advance marks on the advancer at 3000~4000 rpm.

The idle timing using F marks for 1/4 and 2/3 may be close enough for decent idle.

Once rpm is high enough to spread the advancer weights, the timing may be just fine.

Am thinking advancer unit may be sticking, and need lube or both clean and lube.

Good Fortune! :)

I was always partial to the Luminous Navy Blue paint, but that's what mine was so I'm a bit biased. By the way, does anyone know if there were more Red or more Blue MKII's produced in 1979? I think they were only black in 1980 when the MKII labeling was dropped. Just curious...

i have this pic at work on the computer and it is a stock with rearsets CR smoothies and a flat black kerker...the guy painted the body set black and did the pin stripe in white but in the MKII locations...really sharp....i know the 80 is the black one and mine is a japan made 79 ,but,i used to have a red and black set brand new right next to each other...the black with the thin gold pins was tits imo...and yes the sides said just a squared looking KZ1000 not MKII under the emblem...the euro blacks have too much pinstripe detail and too goddy for me...like a virago....:woohoo:

i will collect body sets as M.Wing did and have some of the three eventually...all three colors are great ...blue is really tight with some shiny tid bits ...red with blacked out trick stuff and aluminum...and b;lack with blacked out and marvic gold color rims...schwing...

i was gonna do an Eddie Lawson 1980 tribute black beauty....but as stock as this bike is with the tail and chain gaurds ect...i may do trick but not remove too much if poss....and replace the signals and little stuff with the correct stuff....not too many unmolested MKII's left i'd imagine....
