Thanks Ruff. The headlight is a small H4 with hi/lo beam, you can find it here:http://www.airtech-streamlining.com/miscpages/lights.htm
The numberplate with headlight recess was a one-off but if there's interest I can have a mold made

WOW. I just stumbled upon this thread and went through it. Beautiful bike and craftsmanship. You have inspired me to keep my stock swing arm and brace it up instead of swapping for a newer one. I'm thinking about putting an under-brace on it. If you don't mind me asking, did you make a jig for the swingarm when doing the modifications? Got any pics?

Thanks man. No I didn't make a jig, free handed the bends, tacked the brace on the arm then checked it on the bike for chain clearance before final welding. All my pics are in this thread.

I think Leon (blackbanshee531) did a very nice under braced arm for another member and posted some good pics on this forum. I don't know if he jigged it. Rob (rstnick) has a nice under brace on his KZ650.

Did you find that the braced swingarm made any noticable difference in handling?

It handles much better than stock, but it's impossible to say how much of that I can attribute to the swingarm bracing. I also extensively braced the frame including the headstock, used heavy duty motor mounts, light weight wheels, raised the rear 2", and got the weight down to 430 lbs with a full tank. package deal ;)

Let's try this video thing:

Any chance this video still exists somewhere??

If you're feeling crafty you could pick up a used shifter assembly from a KZ1000 police bike as s starting place. For example:

Specifically, the piece that goes on the shifter shaft is part number 13156-4001, and it's still available from Kawasaki. It looks like this same part was used from '78 to '05, so it should fit on the older bikes.
