Of course the tube does not fit the housing - that would be to easy
The spool hits both halves of the clam shell housing. A wee bit where the cables come in and a *lot* on the side where the cables hook to the spool. The 36mm diameter is measured along the round part of the spool not where the cables hook in, by the way.
I started by removing the casting marks inside the housing:

...and spent another hour or so with the dremel to open the housing up:

Kept going until there was absolutely no binding whatsoever - for obvious reasons. The end result below. Bottom mark on the tape was original WOT mark. Top mark is the current one. Big difference, total cost for this improvement: $10. Throttle snaps shut hard just like it did before.

Just FYI I did hold up the Z1000 tube to the stock Z1 switch housing, it will not fit in there - it may if you do the modifications I did to the MP housing - have not tried as I am not using the stock switch.

I also read somewhere an SV650 throttle tube is 33mm - have not verified. That tube would give you a bit quicker action, should logically put you half way between the two marks and would be much easier to fit in either housing...

Cool Dutch, thanks for the info. I also hated having to reposition my hand to firewall it :)

You're welcome guys. Went riding yesterday and love the way it feels. I wasn't sure how quick I was going to get used to it but it really didn't take long at all. You have to be smoother at small throttle openings but the throttle feeling is a huge improvement, feels a lot more direct. Well worth $10

Hey Mark, thanks. Yes it seems to have better midrange performance than the Yosh did - as far as I remember, not exactly a back to back test. Unfortunately I have not had the chance to throw the bike back on the dyno, hopefully later this year.
