Yes, when Kawi went to the "anti-dive" forks, they made them 1mm smaller. You have to use .020" shim stock around the tube to make up the difference. Brass or aluminum shim is the best.

Where does one get this shim stock?

I buy my shim stock at McMaster-Carr

I think that one massive spark is as good or better than two normal ones.

I think that I will put the bike away for the winter now. The temperature now has been in the lower to mid 20s(f) and there is ice in too many places. I am in love with my 530 chain conversion. It is holding up 4-5X better than the stock setup. I used to adjust my chain every 150-200mi, while now I have not touched it in 1100Mi. I have noticed also that with the 15w-40 oil I am burning it like it is going out of stile in this cold weather. The rings just don't have enough tension to remove it all from the cylinder walls.
I plan on removing my header and taking it to have it ceramic coated inside and out. I plan on also taking my fork lowers there to have them powder coated. they are getting kind of ratty. I have a set of 2001 Police lowers that I want to mount, which have different caliper mounts. This will allow me to mount more modern two or three piston calipers and much larger rotors. I also have a set of Police forks which are about an inch shorter and will allow me to drop the front end some. Along with the 18" wheel this should really increase my handling.

On Thursday I removed my Kerker "K" pipe from my bike and took the header to the speed shop to have it ceramic coated inside and out. The price for the complete work is $125. This includes the complete cleaning and removing existing rust. This pipe I wasted a lot of time and money on a couple years ago, having it blasted and than I used VHT on it which lasted about a month. So between the $75 to have it blasted, the $25 for the VHT black and the VHT primer, I am almost at the same price to have the ceramic put on. I also took in a set of 2003 Police fork lowers to have them cleaned and powder coated black. I cut off the front lower fender mounting ears and blended everything in before I did so. I like these fork lowers because they have offset caliper mounts. This will allow me to use larger disks and more modern calipers. This will now also allow me to mount the 18" rim I have for the bike and get rid of that over-sized 19" wheel. I will post pictures of the parts when I get them back next week. I also found another spare gas tank for the bike. It is not in the best of shapes but it has no dents and it was only $30 + post. It has a few rust pin holes in the sides but those are easy to fix. The tank came with all the trimmings like the petcock and fuel sending unit which are worth more than I paid for the tank in them selves. The 5.5 Gal tanks are hard to find today and the ones for the carbureted bikes even more so. I just could not pass it up.

The trick is, to get the job done in a reasonable period of time. A lot of guys put a lot of years into a project and the outcome dose not justify the time put into it. I have learned the hard way, to do only one project at a time. the next project on the slate will be my KZ1300 to GPz1400 conversion, which I started at the same time. Unfortunately the loss of my job at the time put that project to a halt for over a year and a half. Now that I am employed again i can start on that one again.

I took in just the header-pipe not the tail pipe or center-pipe. Even the short center-pipe is not hot enough to require it. The center-pipe I painted black and it still looks good. The muffler/tail-pipe is aluminum.

Windscreens are easy to find.
There are a couple of places that make them. I bought mine from BikeBandit.com but the best place to go is here.
www.bikescreen.com/products.asp?cat=87 They make every screen you can imagine. I have bought three screens from them so far and they are very nice. However you must drill your own holes. They even have them in different lengths, such as cut-down or extended. Not to mention a myriad of colors and tints.
