The tariffs are working. It depends on which country is involved and where you get your news. It's been lopsided for years but now it's bringing them all to the table and that's a good thing.

Probably worth "nipping this one in the bud" before it grows legs

I think the tariffs do level the playing field of world trade somewhat, but the bottom line is that the cost of those tarrifs will be shouldered by consumers world wide.

I could be wrong but don't think "old crap" is subject to tariffs.
Used parts still attract VAT and import duty in most other countries so "who knows"

Yes, I do think used goods are taxed now. I was misled by importing some goods from Canada to US recently, and the seller said he would mark them used (they were used) to avoid tariffs. Indeed no tariffs were incurred but I believe that had nothing to do with being used goods.

I didn't see anything wrong with my comment.

Steve there is nothing wrong with your comment, my concern is that it takes the conversation away from the "possible charges and their impact on our members" which is a valid discussion and moves it into the "effectiveness of the current administrations policies" which sits outside of the rules ref politics (this isn't the place to share views on world politics and the effectiveness of the administration, you can do this elsewhere)

Over on a bicycling site I frequent, members are reporting getting a bill from UPS for tariff expenses, payable before delivery.  Some of these bills are wonky; not directly comparable to commonly understand % tariff rates.  It seems that UPS is charging fees on top of the tariffs.  Everything is very unclear at the moment.

Edit: it seems that while UPS is sporadically sending invoices, they deliver regardless, before collecting.  More confusion.  And most other shippers are not even trying to collect.

I suspect they are going through a learning curve !! the parts I sent Carlos in Spain by UPS where valued at £30 on the documents but UPS collected £38 in charges from Carlos before they would deliver (VAT, customs charge, state charge etc)
PS: if what I posted was correct charges for items under $800 don't apply until the end of the month

I suspect everything will even out in time.

Re: Tariff Charges

I was recently looking to buy a replacement upgraded rotor for a Z1 from Ebay off a state side vendor. It was a "Ricks" brand made in the USA (unsure if it really is 100%) I ended up not buying it because its steel and there is currently a 25% tariff on steel products from the USA into Canada. It was very hard to get 100% clarity on if it would be flagged at the border or not, tried getting some info off a government web site but those sites are horrible at best. Between the currency conversion, shipping, and taxes it was too expensive at this point in time.

In the long run I ended up ordered a replacement stator locally.

This is what tariffs do, change your buying habits and make you look for local items. Nobody wants to give government extra cash for nothing.
