how to i check my stator resistance? and can i check it even though the bikes not running?

you can check it for a broken winding without bike running,but the bike doesnt need a working charging system to start B)

when i check my 3 wires off the stator, my meter reads 1 on the setting for ohms. when i touch the meter leads to any 2 wires the #'s jump up and then read 000. what does this mean? thats there is or isnt resistance?

stator is for the charging system,same as alternator on a car.
ignition module and pickups under points cover control when ignition fires B)
