The bike finally "leaned out." It had to get pretty hot to do it. I got back home and adjusted the timing and pilot screws. Much better. The bike pulls harder and some of the noise has gone away. I'd rather not go back to the #70's. I may go leaner still. I'll do the cam bearings and readjust.

The oppressive heat has lifted at least for a few days. Got a few things to get done while I have the chance in the mornings.

Took a ride up and down the HWY. The main thing I wanted to know is if it would bog on roll on. It doesn't. The ;pilots are less responsive though.
In the old Clymer manual I had that was stolen years ago there was a performance section that showed how to change the cutaway from 2.0 to 1.5. The one I bought in the 90's has it listed on the cover but that section is missing. It involves filing the bottom of the slides but I'm having trouble finding it online. Anyone have a old Z1, Z1a, Z1b Clymer on their shelves? The early Z1's had 2.0 slides and this was a common mod at the time.
As it stands now, it's obvious I need smaller pilots with the larger mains. I'll pick some up on Monday.

Checked the plugs. I'll pick up #55 pilots tomorrow. Still a little rich. I'm going to add this guy to my thread. Good advice.

I might put them in tomorrow. The bike runs great but I think it could be leaner.

I think it's running lean midrange and that's when it's burning oil.

Hey Steve don't 2.0 slides had a bigger cut away than the 1.5s so you can file 1.5s to make em 2.0s but not the other way around ??

The way I understand it, you can file .5mm off the bottom and make them 1.5. To make them 2.0 you have to make the cutaway taller.
