Handlebar switches

Hi Asphalt900, do you have a reconditioned pair of switch units for a kz650b1 for sale? These are the ones that the cables run through the handlebars.
Many thanks,
Rich.

Hey Kim! Not anything "exclusively" 1977 B1 650 but that doesn't really matter, latching shell halves are basically the same during this era. The difference lies within the wiring and wiring overall length. Do You already have an original set but just fugly? Most times persons just send me their originals and i redo them. I like to keep the original date codes, even though you don't see them or takes effort to. Send me a couple photos of Your's Please! Picture shown is what i believe your LH switchblock will resemble. The one with the almost always dreaded discolored "Hazard" push/pull button. This one is NOS but has wiring for external routing

I don't doubt it Warren! I don't work on a lot of the mid-sized KZ's, that's why it's always preferred if persons send me their originals. I do see yours has the lower casting boss that would be later used/cut-out for the "Hazard" red knob though. Also yours has all the recessed features painted in white. This was indicative of a Kawasaki "replacement", they did away the yellow paint in any sector.

Re: Handlebar switches
09 Feb 2025 08:58 - 09 Feb 2025 09:25Mine is 100 % original that I bought new in 77 and still own. It's also the bike Kawasaki borrowed off me when they released the new 650 in 2016 and it toured the world for the press releases and exhibition stands so they could have original and new beside each other.I don't doubt it Warren! So, a UK 77 650 B1 definately had some yellow lettering.
The US bike is far from stock and I've repainted the switches.

Hi all, I will need to source a complete left hand switch as the one I currently have has been replaced with a hazard switch type which has external wiring. The right hand switch is the original unit.
Many thanks,
Rich.

Cool story about Your original Z650 Warren!! Your pic of the switch is a tiny thumb and i can't make it any bigger but i can note the existence of a hump on the "Horn-(Pass)" toggle bar. Your Euro version had a SPDT switch and while part number didn't change the plastic toggle bar did, more pronounced "hook" for pass in superseded bar 46027-015. This resulted in an extra wire within the wiring harness for city light. US models used a simple SPST and came in two versions. Photo of the 4 different style switches used from 1976 to 1980. And a couple finished tops. Kim.. i have a couple boxes of these assorted switches, let me check before you buy one! Now that Warren sorted me out, Thank-You Warren!! I know what to look for now.

Kim i searched thru my crap earlier this morning, can't duplicate what was shown from Warren. His might be euro specific as far as the filled casting for Hazard? But did find about 20 of the Hazard ones. Might just be US specific and correct with the red button? Really need to connect the dots and show what you have within headlight bucket for female terminals.

Did a little research for you Kim. Just wasn't that familiar with the 650. Appears the 1977 was a unique bird like warren mentioned. What i thought was a different lower LH half i "believe" is the same..except they used a rectangular plastic plug, number 25, to cover the hole. Part # 92012-019 but seems elusive to find but would be easy to make if You're crafty. Seems the B1 didn't have the Hazard feature, that started in B2 model. Noted the wiring harness is different and absent the relay needed for the Hazard. So..what you have is fine, just remove the red button. And you can lessen the amount of wires going thru the bars. The wiring is easy.
