Sounds kinda like at least one previous owner decided to cut their losses and pass it on...

Thanks for all the considerations everyone. At this point I'm just trying to justify the purchase. Is everything in the photos worth the $100 (that may be subjective) and is it possible to "get my money back" by reselling the parts listed in the pictures? Just a lot of thinking to be done considering the alternate routes. The main thing right now is I'm not sure if my parents would be supportive of this decision since I already have two bikes in their garage

Most definitely. The bodywork isn't terribly visible in the pics, but those pieces (in good shape) should get you more than $100 - ditto for the Kerker exhaust.

If you have a swap meet event nearby during the summer, you can sell stuff without using eBay.

One thing I did for a project was buy a basket case 440B (same condition as your 550) and then found a 440B rolling frame with a clear title - boom, street-legal frankenbike project.

Update: I got the bike! It's not in the best condition but the price reflects that. Im not sure what I'm going to do with it yet but its pretty cool. It turns out it is a 1985 gpz550. Fitting it all in my little vw golf proved difficult

Yeah most of it is there just missing some parts like the instrument cluster, ignition switch, battery tray, airbox, and a bunch of bolts. I think I'm going to follow Wookies advice for now and try to put it back together.

Alright guys I need your help! I can't tell if these jets are different from standard sizes. My main curiosity is to see whether they are jetted for pods since it didn't come with an airbox. Thanks in advance!

The jets should have a number on them, and if they are Keihin carbs, their stylized K. The number tells you what size they are, and you can cross-reference that with the factory service manual (FSM). POD filters will require a size or two up from stock.

I just did some research and these are tk27 carbs and the main jets are supposed to be hexagonal to take out with a wrench
My main problem is I dont know what size these jets are since they dont have numbers...

Alright guys I got a lot put together right now. Only things I can't put together yet are the front wheel and the suspension (since it doesn't have the steering bearings) and the engine (since i don't have all parts for the motor mounts). Before I put the engine in, I was gonna ask you guys what's the best way to check the engines state? It was left in the guys workshop where he did a lot woodwork so it has a fair bit of sawdust and cobwebs in the exhaust ports. Also, what's the best way to turn over the engine without causing possible damage? I'll try to get you guys some pictures, but I want to clean my "workspace" before showing you guys...

Vacum out as much as you can (on the upside being the exhaust side when you spin it over it should blow the rest out) then remove the plugs and squirt some WD40 in there - with the plugs still removed pull the timing cover and carefully rotate the crank clockwise, it it feels ok (no tight spots or noises) then you should be ok to spin it on the starter - still with the plugs out (assuming it has oil in it !!)
