I repair car engines all the time. I invented a tool to repair connecting rod journals w/o removing engine. If I try this hone and it works, I'll be able to bore blocks w/o removing engines.zed1015 wrote:
Why ? $149 + $60 gets you a proper accurate re-bore at a professional engine shop by someone who hopefully knows what they are doing.car5car wrote: I was going to buy this tool and use my drill:

Those hones are really for glaze busting and re-ringing and no where near as accurate and consistent as a bench machine.
Total false economy and a recipe for disaster.

Most, not all automotive machine shops dont have a clue about motorcycle machine work.car5car wrote: Did you bring them to motorcycle engine shop or auto? I am pretty sure automotive machine shop will charge a few times less.

I am not talking about bikes.swest wrote: The barrels come off without pulling the engine. Trying to bore 2-4mm with a hons is NOT the way to do it. Not only can the bores be uneven, off center or even warped, having a piston grenade at high RPM can be life threatening on a bike not to mention the law suits that come from it if the customer is injured.

Of course they don't. That is because car cylinders are round and bike cylinders are square.PLUMMEN wrote:

Id be willing to bet after trying it your way they probably do more closely resemble something square than a circle.car5car wrote:
