Plates not needed for boring.
Boring AND honing needs to be done in order of 2, 4, 1, 3 to avoid incorrect clearances due to heat distortion unless you let the whole block cool after each pass.
For $60 you probably get a wrecked block with poor compression and a high oil usage unless the machinist is a good friend and the $60 is mates rates for beer money.

Or you can simply get the cylinder and pistons off a KZ1100 or GPz1100 and no machining required, bolts right on.

I had a lousy bore job done in 78 for $100. Not only were they off center, the bike always burned oil. I had Clupper Racing do my new bores in 87 for $200 and ran them until 13. I'll say it again, you want cheap, you get cheap.

Great idea!
Are there forum members who keep their KZ1100 outside and don't have guns?
The best upgrade is to sell KZ1000 for 2500 and buy KZ1100 for $1000

I wouldn't take 5 1100's for my Z1b 1000. I am thinking on going 1105, spending REAL money and sell my 1015 setup. Maybe a 1200. B)

Then you should go get one......much more satisfying to ride what you really want.....either way what everyone is saying is true : there are no free lunches when it comes to increasing performance.

Why ? $149 + $60 gets you a proper accurate re-bore at a professional engine shop by someone who hopefully knows what they are doing.
Those hones are really for glaze busting and re-ringing and no where near as accurate and consistent as a bench machine.
Total false economy and a recipe for disaster.
