They haven't progressed further with the question, "Then why register them? "KZQ wrote: Over the years I have received several letters from the Oregon DMV questioning my lack of insurance on registered bikes. I can only guess they took a break from their coffee breaks and queried my insurance company. Each time they surprisingly, accepted my explanation that these bikes were part of my collection and were not driven on the road.

I will not use Progressive (George Soros affiliations) or GEICO (not a friend to anyone when it comes to liability laws and crappy service).

For sure You must provide proof of insurance to register a bike here. These were bikes that I had registered and insured and then moved the coverage to another bike.
Don't know about Progressive but I'm with you on GEICO.GPzMOD750 wrote: ...I will not use Progressive (George Soros affiliations) or GEICO (not a friend to anyone when it comes to liability laws and crappy service).

Hmmmm. you also get charged a bogus $25 per month fine for not re-registering every year in Colorado.RonKZ650 wrote: I wish Colorado didn't require it. I have 7 Kawasaki KZs that I can't register without insurance and I'm not going to pay for that on any of them. Colorado also raised the registration fee that was around $11.00 for an older motorcycle to around $60.00, so I suppose I wouldn't registered most of them anyway. I can take 90 seconds, remove the plate of a newer motorcycle, put it on one of the KZs. Heck with the insurance crap.

There is something like that, but last I read, unless they have done additional greed laws for plates recently the fine was capped off after a time, so if you decide to drop plates and insurance for several years, the fine is way cheaper. I dropped all mine and probably will never register any of my KZs again.missionkz wrote:

I found Dairyland had a decent policy for liability to cover multiple motorcycles for liability. How many you own was unlimited. I have 7 like I said, and the policy was around $250.00 a year. I didn't mind that, but then they raise the renewal fee on plates to $60.00, that comes to $420.00 a year, so $670.00 a year. One year I rode 40 miles total, so nearly $20.00 per mile. At the same time I had a 1993 E350 Ford van I told the insurance company we use for camping 2 or 3 times a year. Insurance for liability was still $400.00 a year, and plates $150.00. I drove that 40 miles one year also, so $1220.00 for 80 miles of enjoyment. I now save $1200.00 a year I was flushing.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

In Utah we have Vintage registrations, unfortunately not for motorcycles which is silly IMO, so keeping everything registered for the road with a safety and renewal fees is pretty pricey. I keep meaning to complain to some politician regarding not being able to get the Vintage registration for bikes, I thought when I got my Triumph it was a given as it was 40 years old, but the DMV soon burst my bubble. As Ron KZ650 points out, the cost per mile can become outrageous with some of these bikes that only get ridden occasionally.
Here in Utah if you get caught without insurance then you get into quite a bit of trouble plus they require you to get SR22 insurance that means suddenly you are paying thousands for all your vehicles for this insurance. A friend of mine got caught riding his brothers scooter having been wrongly informed as to what cc's you could ride on a car license, then the insurance wasn't valid, they ended up after all the fines etc. paying $1000 a month to insure the family's vehicles for the 3 years? or however long you have to have it for. I don't know the laws in other states, but if you start trying to cheat the system it can be very costly if you are unlucky one day and get pulled over. So you are between a rock and a hard place between the insurance and fees versus getting caught and prosecuted.

Hagerty does have a box you can tick if your bike is under restoration, not sure how that works and I also coverage for about $2k of parts that might be destroyed if my garage burns down.
Do you have a GPz750? I have a few GPz 750 parts still from a parts bike I bought some years back, let me know if you are looking for anything I might have it still, I sold most of it but still have forks, crankshaft. pistons, barrels, crankcases, airbox and some other stuff.

Mostly my pride. . Promised my wife I would take some advanced riding classes when the bike is done. I probably could have handled the situation better.

I've been known to wonder to the Happy Valley on the rare occasion, like to buy a GPz in Orem. My 1000 was even in Eagle Mountain but the owner brought it up since he worked down the block and across the street from me. A source for spares is never a bad thing. I'll PM you when I get a minute and return this thread back to subject.redhawk4 wrote: I live in Pleasant Grove. We should meet up for a ride when our bikes are ready for the road.
