Is there much factor between certain size cc say so much over vs being under a certain size and age of bike. In shopping for insurance and comparing quotes, we're talking the difference of an engine rebuild each year. For what it's costing to insure this bike it just makes more and more sense.

CCs make a difference but your age and driving record are the larger factors. I insure my KZ1100 Spectre for $100.00 per year. I recently dropped the insurance on my 750 Twin and substituted my KZ1300. The change added $7.00 to the annual premium.

That and it depends on the insurance. They won't give me replacement value if it's totaled but like my boxes, if I do it myself, I might be able to get it back to where it was and make a few bucks doing it. Road side assistance is what I wanted.

You can get agreed values to cover your investment. I don't know all the insurance companies that offer agreed values but I have one with Progressive. If the bike is totaled I would get the value we agreed on.

I use a company that does vintage bikes only. I pay $205/year for all four classics.

This may not apply to you, but if your bike is highly customized, very low mileage, above average condition or collectible, you may want to check into an "agreed value" policy. Typically there are restrictions on the amount of annual miles and the bike must be stored indoors. However, the cost is not significantly higher than a standard policy due to the care and limited use. There was a guy on here a while ago that got hit by a car. From what I recall, the bike was a very nice condition 78 KZ-1000 LTD. The insurance Company pulls up 78 KZ-1000 and says the his totaled bike is worth $1,500. Redline cycle told him replacement cost for an equal bike is $16K! To the insurance company, an ELR, LTD, Z1-R or hacked up ratted out death trap bobber are all a KZ-1000. I think we all know there's a slight value difference. The time to argue what your bike is worth is not when you're filing a claim. They're much more agreeable to a higher value when it means they will be collecting a slightly higher premium. Even if someone else is at fault, your insurance company is on the hook for the difference. Let their lawyers fight over the value with the other driver's insurance Company.

Make sure you actually talk to insurance agent when buying a stated value policy. A stated value policy sets the maximum limit an insurance company will pay. Not what they will pay for your motorcycle based on its actual cash value.
You want replacement value policies if you are looking for full coverage.

I also have Progressive , & have my 1980 LTD 1000 insured for a replacement price of 6500.00
Sure, I pay a much higher premium , which is 34 dollars & some change, per month, otherwise I would only get Blue Book value
another thing that some insurance companies want ,if you want a higher than the B/B value , is to pay to get it appraised by a reputable appraiser , & your premium will be charged accordingly

Yes but I'd bet that that coverage is limited to transporting or riding to and from bike shows and competitions only.
And I don't mean races.

where is the like button! whew. excellent info. I'm lookiing into this stuff. It was not easy to evaluate this deal (picking up this bike). But after putting some time in it, riding, tuning, research etc... the bike is stock. Salud to the modifiers, but stock is ok here. Aside from the paint, it sat and never seen as many miles in such a short time until recently. The story was the earlier owner was a pilot which makes a lot of sense never being around to ride it plus i tend to think of pilots as having some what good taste being well dressed flyers and all

Going to look into insur options. btw, i'm going thru progressive, and i think i'm floored but don't realize it yet. For a few sticks of gum today vs $3-4 each day as a younger adult is proof getting up there combined with the certain year/ make ride has its perks.

Ok, so much for that. My limits were minimums, still with a little more wiggle room it's not bad. $10 for roadside? (how is that possible?) The agreed value has me. You can almost put any amount in there, but according to progressive, the payout appears is really in the hands of the adjuster. (yea i knew that) I'm not up to speed on this stuff, the spouse is cept for my bike. So I, think it was mentioned, documentation as justification. Appraisal, receipts. I'm doing the wrenching so i don't know that I can convince these guys of my $60hr w/ over xx hours into the bike without an actual invoice, appraisals probably need to be done periodically and be backed with certs, anything with any weight behind it is gonna cost. So, in the end higher agreed upon value = higher premium but does not guarantee higher percentage of coverage. Lower agred upon value = lower premium, maybe little if any recuperation. I think this is the do you feel lucky fork in the road. And all this over what $50. Imagine that, the day without nickle and diming everything. And the biggest issue is I'm not worried bout my driving. Does that change much with age? Do you get older and find yourself saying, "wow, I'm terrible, somebody stop me" ;)
