I rode the durango/silverton train a few decades ago. It was a memorable experience. I definitely recommend it.
I'm sad to say that I'm not going to make it to the rally. Being in August it corresponds with my wedding anniversary. My wife doesn't ride (even as a passenger) and I don't think there'd be enough other stuff going on to keep her interest.

I'll be leaving on the Amtrack for New Mexico next Wednesday. My mom passed away on Valentines Day and I'm going to go and help my brothers pack up and get the house ready for sale. I'll be there about 2 months so will definitely find time to drive up to Ute Bluff Lodge for a looksee. Stay tuned for pictures.
On a lighter note, it will be good to get out of this freakin' winter weather and enjoy an early spring.

Would anyone be coming down from Canada?? Newfoundland - Colorado is a helluva hike. I have a pick-up truck and trailer hitch, if someone needed a ride down we might be able to arrange something.

Here's some pics my brother took while traveling in So. Colorado and Northern New Mexico. First is the train from Chama, NM to Antonitos, CO. here's a link,

Second is the Rio Grand, third is the tallest sand dunes in the country. All within riding distance of Ute Bluff Lodge.
