I'll get out the cutting wheel if need be, just wanted a full length seat.


That frame looks an awful lot like my 81 K1 frame.

The used seat I have came off a later model with the stepped frame. I had to modify the foam to fit my early pan. I'll see if I can find the late pan and compare it with the Z1 seat I got from Z1E and post it.

I second and third this. Pull the motor and use rubber gloves, safety glasses, that nasty stripper, and a pressure washer.

If blasting is necessary use something a little more motor friendly such as sodium bicarbonate instead of something that can and will schuck your engine bearings. It is almost impossible to prevent something that just plain goes EVERYWHERE in the blasting process to NOT get into all of those little nooks and crannies.

Here's the seat pans. The late model pan is much wider than the Z1/KZ pan.

I slapped it together for a quick test ride. Other than the clutch needing adjustment it did great.

I'm going to adjust the carbs a bit, but it idles and starts well and revs ridiculously quick.

The temporary exhaust is a riot.
This thing wants to run, if I touch the throttle it jumps up and revs out instantly. Even with the open header pipes, It actually sounds amazingly crisp.

Foot pegs are stout and placement seems fine, I think they will be better with different handlebars.

It is low enough now, that the kickstand is almost too long, though. Might have to address that.

Agreed. I'm going to keep stripping and wire brushing. I plan to do what I can with the blaster while not being too intrusive.
Several pieces may get painted black after it's all said and done, as they are pretty rough.

I picked up some plastic media. I'll test it out and see how it works.
