KZ1000P conversion.
15 Nov 2018 23:42 - 15 Nov 2018 23:43
I recently bought a 1993 KZ1000P. I want to convert it to a standard KZ1000.
Any links or info to the parts needed is appreciated.

I'm going to start my search list with the basics.
Seat
Handlebars
Foot pegs
Foot controls
Headlight and mount
And an exhaust , as this one is gutted.

I would think someone on here would be willing to trade parts. Maybe remove all the "P" only parts and list them as a kit to convert their bike to a P model. I've never seen one of those so I have no idea how much to ask for them. Nice bike though!

There are several police bike build threads on KZR. One of the biggest challenges in the conversion will be the floor boards and the seat.

I had to cut an inch out of the kick up of the end of the frame to get a ‘81 LTD seat to fit. I’ll try to post pics where to cut and weld. The next engineering is the back brake pedal and linkage. None of it is horribly complicated but once you start you’re committed. The wiring takes a little time. Just use common sense, I wanted to keep all the switches available for lights and future projects

I'm willing to do that, but shipping is terrible from the Mariannas.

Thank you for the info, that is a great looking bike.
What headlight setup is that?

I ordered some footpegs and a shifter lever from a 78 kz1000 and a brake pedal from an 82. Here is hoping that it works out.

I picked up a set of upswept drag bars, new grips, and a generic "cafe" seat.
I'm hoping I can reuse some of the current seat mounts.
I also found a 4into1 pipe for an 82 kz1000j. Im thinking it should fit after the floorboards are gone.

I'm considering cutting the front fender, but I think I would rather find a replacement. The current bracket would allow for pretty much anything to be mounted there.
I'm going to do some searching and see what comes up.
I think I would like a kz900 tail for the rear fender, but they seem pricey to ship, that may end up being a cut down job as well.
