Mark is always the voice of reason around here! I think I may still do it anyway. May not be too bad. When I call D&G next week to place an order for parts, may need to see if they'll unleash their CNC to make the spacer...

So I think I may have an idea to get around the hard part of the spacer. I am going to start by using the extra stator cover and milling it down until it just has enough depth to keep the starter components in place. Then have a CNC disc made with a step in the edge and a center hole. That will drop the disc into the cover opening and have it welded in place. Then I can drill and tap the plate to make an indexing plate for mounting the alternator.

The second option is to use tubular stand offs and use 1/8" or 1/4" bar stock and cut them in sections to weld in between the posts to create a fabricated spacer.

Lastly is an 18 lb, $90 slab of aluminum and lots of time cutting and filing.......

So far, I think I may have a good plan for the external alternator. Just need to find a guy who can TIG weld aluminum well. I also spoke with a local motorcycle shop the specializes in vintage bikes and has an excellent rep. They will be nahdling the main engine work including machining, inspection, etc... I can actually do this except for the machine shop work myself, but figure with my job and everythign else, just farm it out to these guys as they are very meticulous.

I also made up my shopping list for the engine build which I have attached below. This is incase someone else is building a similar engine, all the P/N's are provided along with vendors. Note, one page is the ZRX engine build, so pay not attention to that.... heheh

That looks good! As a side note I am bidding on a complete gilmer belt drive Mallory ignition setup which would match awesome to my external alt drive. We'll see if I can win it since I needed a new ignition system anyway.... Any one try this setup before?

Earlier in the thread you posted the following question:

This would still leave me with the sprockets out of alignment by .140" over 27.3" chain span. This equates to .3 degrees deflection. Is this OK?

Did you receive a response to your question or find an answer? Also what was determined about offsetting front sprocket using 25mm center spacers?
