And that has to wait for the weather to warm up some. Still ~34F here regularly and I can't paint indoors. Until then I'm going to work on cleaning up what I have and thinking things over.

Once the frame is paints I'll finish up the engine. I have just about everything planned out except the compression modifications as I'll have to do the measurements once everything is back together to determine how much I need to take everything down. At this point I'm planning on having the head and block surfaced to square them up and reduce the clearances to where I want them. I will likely be running on race gas so I'm hoping to get the compression over 11:1 if possible with the stock pistons to start with.

11:1 or even more should be doable with stock pisotns, you'd be looking at removing something like 1.6mm off the block. Pistons are going to stick out quite a bit so you should machine a slight taper, like 15 degs around the edge so they dont touch the head. checking piston to valve clearance is recommended too.

Got the VM28's in the mail yesterday. I can't believe the USPS allowed them to be shipped - they stank of varnish when the mail man handed them to me.

I got to work trying to clean them up today - man, I have never seen carbs this bad. It's worth it for me to try and revive these as I have more time than money and was able to get them cheap. Everything seems to be there minus a few bits for the accelerator pump which I have to disable anyways.

Carbs are soaking on the grill in a warm/hot lemon juice/water bath. I have already free'd up one of the slides. Three more to go. What a mess. They deserved much better than this...

the hard part will be cleaning the internal passages. thats where the sonic bath comes in.
i have drilled out the brass beads, in the passage ends, to get at the passages. then repluged the end with a lead fishing weight .

Yeah :S

I'm going to ruin my buddy's can of carb dip first and go from there. The boil freed up the slides some - I have to drill out the screw holding the rod in place as it's all mucked up. One I have it apart we'll see how bad it is.

One of the intake bell's is bent slightly, not enough that I'm too worried about it but it annoys me - has anyone ever successfully straightened them out? If so, how?

Carbs are apart and soaking. Will take quite some time....

Did some cleaning on the block exterior, still needs some more.

Started sanding on the frame. Cut off the kick stand bracket to get it out of the way.

Got the oil pan off, pretty clean other than some sludge.

Ordering a Gpz oil pan and cooler from another member along with some Gpz cams

Hope to have some fun photos soon. once the frame and swinger are painted.

Need to take the block and head in to get them surfaced and cut down the block a little. Still need to measure clearance (once the higher lift cams get here) and compression.

Feel like I'm finally getting something done. Started tossing broken/unneeded parts and freeing up some room in the garage (cracked points cover, parts that won't be used or sold, etc.).

Still need to take the 750 motor apart.

Got the top triple clamp and brake stay painted with the first few coats of VHT Chassis and Roll Bar.

Cases are separated, went pretty smooth once I found the last few bolts I forgot

I'm constantly amazed at how much my patience and care has improved as I work on bikes.

Worked on mounting the rearsets I bought.

Need to get a longer rod for the shifter linkage, possibly a bent one to get around the swingarm bolt/nut.

Close, Hong Kong specials from flea bay for a cbr1000. I think now it would have been smarter to just get the tarozzi's as the rod has female ends unlike the tarozzis and I think I'll have a hard time finding a replacement rod to fit. The ends for the tarozzis for the male end rods are $25/each....
