Hoping to spend the day finishing the tear down and organizing what I have. Once that is completed the frame and swing arm modifications can get started.
Happy New Year!

That looks like it would be a freaking riot! :woohoo:DoubleDub wrote: I spoke briefly with this guy this last year about his bike. The guy on the Z1R and Guzzi were top two for all races, I believe. They were just up in another class by themselves.
He talks about having problems with left curves,ive always had problems with hard rights for some reason. :blink:

Someday I might just have to build a vintage bike to race in the VRRA. I'm thinking a 650 would be a much better choice for me than a big brute...hell a KZ400 might just do the trick lol.

Yep, that was a big reason I chose the 650 over a 900/1000. It went like this:
1. My big Kaw scares the crap out of me in the turns.
2. Wow, this 650 is much lighter to push around.
3. There's tons of these 650's for sale around here...good source of parts.
4. Hmm...650 is at the top end of the displacement for it's classification (750 is at the low end of the heavyweight range)
5. Wow, this 650 is free and mostly complete!

DoubleDub wrote: I also just measure the lift on the cams. I thought the Kz750 cams were taller, but they're actually shorter on the intake and taller on the exhaust only. :huh:
The cams I am comparing are from (assuming they were never swapped):
1. 1979 Kz650-C3:
Intake=37.78mm x 28.07mm
Exhaust=35.76mm x 28.07mm
Lift= 9.71 mm / 7.69 mm
or .3884 in / .3076 in
2. 1982 Kz750-E3:
Intake=36.25mm x 28.15mm
Exhaust=36.20mm x 28.15mm
Lift= 8.10 mm / 8.05 mm
or .324 in / .322 in
I think...unless I screwed up measuring something. That .388in intake lift on the 650 seems high. But what do I know?
The 1982 Kz750-E3 model is a guess based on the Engine ID #.
KZ650 --- .308/.308,224*/229*,105*/110*. same as the 750turbo but retimed at a different lobe center
KZ750 --- .324/.324,240*/240*,105*/105*
Forgot to mention,some GPZ750 cams have a smaller base circle, .354/250*
