Can't complain with the price. I have an 80 that I got for $300...ran a little, was really just very dirty... stuck MAYBE 400 into it and put about 2k miles on in just a few months this summer.

Does yours run? What are your plans for it?

It needs a starter and some other small things done to it . If I wonted to I could have it up and on the road in no time . The last owner took the starter off and lost it along with the cover and screws . I picked it up thinking it would make a nice winter project but it is hard not to tinker with it now . I would like to go over it and give it a now life with paint and a good cleaning . I did check the compression and it is great . I thought that is half the battle I can fix everything ells with little problems and I found a service manual on line so that will help .

I also started to clean the rust off of the chrome . You can see it in the one pic . The mirror on the right side was covered and and got it half done . I am looking forward to next year pulling it out looking as new as I can get it . More pics will come as I get things done .

I went out and picked up some missing bolts today for the sprocket cover with the clutch linkage I got off of the parts bike it all worked out . It is nice when things start to come together . I have to wait for next week for my master link to come in .

I removed the seat and tank to get a good look at the harness . :( Every ground wire from the front back to the battery is toast ! Some one had removed the 20 amp. fuse and taped the wires together . I know that the starter went bad . One hot lead is toast . Everything ells looks OK but the meatier will tell me if they are . I took a look on Ebay for a harness :S and for the price I think I will rewire by hand . I have done it to old cars . This should not be that bad . It looks like a pile of junk right now . I will have to get some pics for everyone to see . I wonted a winter project and it may take alllllllll winter to get this back together and running .

Back to the Bike today . At closer look it was not all the ground wires but what had happened was there is a white wire with a red stripe that comes from the voltage rectifier from under the batty box . The box had worn throw the wire and shorted out the grounds from the rectifier so it stayed in one area . Not a bad fix as long as nothing ells is bad . The oil leak is coming from around the shifter rod .

When I got my '82 750 a couple of years ago, it was October, so I just spent the winter checking every wire connection and replacing the bad ones, replacing fork seals, cleaning up the brakes and checking valve clearances.

Haven't had to do anything major since except changing the oil and filter and bleeding the brakes (gotta love speedbleeders). Winter work is well worth it.

Good Luck

I have been thinking of color . I know that it will be a long time before I get to it but she is ruff . I found this pic that looks like the way I would like my tank and side covers to look .

It seems like every one has a black motor cycle . I think the red will make it stand out nice .

The last owner took the starter off and lost it .

I will be getting a used one and rebuilding it .
Update so fare . I have the harness straitened out and for the first time since I got it the lights and horn works . The horn is in bad shape but works . I will have to clean the switches up but they work . I will be checking the starting system out this week . I hope everything checks OK . I will move on to getting a starter and brakes for it after I now that the electrical is OK .
I was amazed that the flasher units looked to be as old as the bike but they work . As far as the horn goes I will take the on off of the parts 440 an save some cash . I have decide to hold off on stripping the paint . I would like to see this thing on the road first .
